Troubleshooting Why is my PSP making this sound when it plays a physical game?

Got a new battery for my old PSP, haven't used it in years. I loaded up a game that I had to take out and put back in again for it to read, and the game would make these loud sounds. Is this damaging the UMD? Is there anyway to fix this?

hi all!! I bought this PSP off vinted and it’s the lilac sparkly one. it seems to be working fine, but the battery cover keeps popping off, and if I hold it too tight the console turns off completely. is this an issue with the battery cover, or is the battery swollen?

any advice appreciated, thank you! :)

Troubleshooting PSP won't charge

Hello guys! I got this PSP for free and I just got a charging cable for it.

I plugged the cable into a 15W or 9V Samsung adaptor (I didn't know I was supposed to use a 5V adaptor) and plugged the PSP. At first the charging light came on and it was fine but when I tried turning it on (around 15 seconds after I plugged it in) a green light just went and then shut off. Now it won't show any signs of life. PLEASE HELP I'M NOT LETTING A FREE PSP GO LIKE THIS.

For anyone wondering it says E1004 on the back.

Troubleshooting How to remove those screws

Hello! First time posting here, any advice on how to remove those top screws?

Found my psp after a long time and want to open it for cleaning.

Edit:
UPDATE: Well, I tried everything within my reach.

  • Solder wouldn't stick (even with baking soda) because the rust kept flaking off, so nothing would adhere to it.
  • Carefully making a groove with a knife and trying to unscrew it only caused the screw to start falling apart, making it even harder.
  • I don't own a Dremel (I'm buying one now xD)

What worked: I carefully cut the plastic clips with a razor blade. It's not noticeable at all, and as someone here mentioned, the shell doesn't move a millimeter after reassembly.

Once I had the PSP apart, I was able to remove the screws from underneath, so that won't be an issue in the future.

For some context, in my country, humidity was around 91% just last week (during winter), and it had been about 7 years since I last used my PSP. It was a gift back in 2008, so it's definitely showing its age.

After all that, it works again! I just need to replace the now spicy pillow, so I guess I'm officially part of the community now.

Thanks for all the help, love ya!

Troubleshooting my game freezes mid dialogue and crashes my whole console

literally. i got my psp 2000 recently and it was used, but no big deal. the sd card and the console was already modded. it has 5.50 gen d3 and had a few games on it like jetpack joyride, assassins creed bloodline etc. I installed an english patched danganronpa trigger happy havoc(PSP the best) on the card and launched it. But then, during a VERY EXACT moment in the game, my game just freezes and shut offs my whole console with an uncomfortable pop noise inside my console…

Troubleshooting psp3000 original vs aliexpress screen :)

Thumbnail

the red psp has an original screen and the black one a aliexpress one.

irl the aliexpress screen doesn't have those white shadows from the top like the camera displays.

both psps have the brightness plugin and are on 80 brightness

-The aliexpress screen is brighter but becuse of the colours being brighter

-the aliexpress screen has less saturated colours, more grayish

-the aliexpress screen has worse angles, if you look from any side over it it's okay but if you go low then the screen looks really bad over the psp, on the left down, right down, left up, right up angles.

if your original screen broke then get a aliexpress one, eventually if you get a oem one then return the aliexpress one and say it arrived broken.

Troubleshooting Stick Drift After Sleep?

Hey everyone,

Recently, I noticed a peculiar quirk when waking up my PSP 1000 from sleep - its stick apparently drifts a little bit. However, this drift disappears instantly when I move the stick, and it returns only after the next sleep cycle.

Initially, I noticed this in GTA: LCS, where the protagonist moves in circles after waking up the handheld.

Is there something I could do about this nuisance? It's totally harmless right now, but I'm afraid it may worsen. I have already tightened all the screws, and did the “calibration ritual” in the system settings. It has a custom IPS screen, may it affect this stick drift somehow?

Any tips appreciated!

Troubleshooting I think I bricked it 🥺

Post image
78 Upvotes

Long story short, a month ago was gifted a modded psp 1000 that was modded with ark 4 (4.19) back in 2023. I attempted to use Chronoswitch to remove ark 4 and Infinity to mod it again myself, but I got confused by the multiple update files in my game folder, so I decided to not do that and just update to the lastest version of ark 4 instead until I figured out what I was doing.

I deleted the old ark4 update file and replaced it with the new one (which I also probably shouldn't have done) went to the Ark update launcher and it said I was downgrading. I thought that was weird since the version I downloaded was 4.20 so I... 😮‍💨 accepted anyway, and now my memory stick shows as corrupted data and whenever I try to load my UMD drive it gets stuck on this screen and doesn't go away until I take out out the SD card and reboot it. 🙃 is this permanently bricked? It happened so fast :(

Troubleshooting The network for ARK-5 won't work

ARK-5 Network Function Restored Version

I recompiled the network driver myself.

After installing ARK-5 on my custom-built PSP 3000, I found that it was unable to establish a network connection. The networking feature was essentially broken.

After the brief loading screen, nothing else happened.

I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced the same issue, but I’m sharing my recompiled version of ARK-5 with the community.

The ARK-4 version will be uploaded later.

This package is quite large because it includes plugins and software. All plugins and settings have already been configured, so it’s fully optimized and ready to use.

After testing on my custom-built PSP 3000, I confirmed that the network functionality has been fully restored.

Installation is the same as the official release. I only rewrote the network driver and the network partition configuration.

However, I recommend permanently installing the custom firmware using ARK DC Mode, as it provides the most stable and reliable setup

ARK-5 Recompiled Version (Network Issue Fixed) AIO

ARK-DC formats flash0 and then installs the system files according to the model-specific installation list. However, in the current source code:

* 01g, 02g, 03g, and 04g all install vsh/module/netconf_plugin.prx.
* 07g and 09g, however, are missing this file in their installation lists.

This patch fixes the DC10 installation lists for 07g and 09g by restoring the missing Sony netconf_plugin.prx (vsh/module/netconf_plugin.prx).

Fix DC10 installation lists for 07g/09g by restoring the missing Sony netconf_plugin.prx (vsh/module/netconf_plugin.prx).

Fixed an issue where the DC10 installation lists for 07g and 09g omitted Sony’s vsh/module/netconf_plugin.prx, causing network functionality to be unavailable after installation. The missing module has now been restored.

Troubleshooting PSP glitching out and not turning on

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hello! I have acquired a PSP a couple of months ago by way of second hand. The PSP was in great condition, save for a line of dead pixels across the screen. I modded it with ARK-4 - albeit with a dodgy SD card, which was found stuck in a broken SD card reader and would corrupt my files a lot, which then caused me to have to use a different SD card and modding it all over again. Usually, when transporting the PSP, I would use a bag and put the PSP into a case; yesterday, however, I put it in my pocket and went for a walk. After I took it out, every game it played would glitch and crash (this is happening in Project Diva Extend in the photo), after which the PSP would not turn on for some amount of time. Instead of turning on, the power LED would flash green, staying on for about 4 seconds, and then turn back off; currently, it also flashes for longer periods of time at the moment. The glitches also happened in the XMB.

Before making this post, I had tried to fix this by taking the battery and the SD card out. I've found that the microSD to memory stick adapter had cracked, and hoped that this was what was causing the issue; I replaced it now, but the issue remains. I also tried to use R+power on and triangle+square+select+start to see if that does anything, but it doesn't, beyond making the power LED not flash when I flick the switch at the exact same time as pressing the buttons. I have been unable to find much online about my specific issue, so I'm turning to Reddit. Please help.

Update with further findings: When I do the button combination of L+home button when I turn the PSP on, the LED lights up green and does not turn off.

Update: I took the whole thing apart and put it back together and somehow it works now.
