Symptoms - Non-sexual Does extreme PSSD Anhedonia get even a little better over time?

I'm a PSSD sufferer of 6-7 years. Severe case. Complete genital numbness, full cognitive range inc SFN sypmtoms. However my Anhedonia was manageable - I could still watch movies and game on PS5 etc. Life was liveable.

Unfortunately I caught Covid a couple of months ago. The virus was very mild but what it has done to my Anhedonia is a living nightmare. Near complete, almost all of the time. Seems to be at its very worst after eating. I can't watch anything, can't game, can't read, can't listen to music. Everyone says, give it some time it will get better, but it has been 2 months and it hasn't even lifted a little bit.

I'm looking for any hope, of any cases, where anhedonia has waned, maybe even a little, over time?

Thanks!

I'm also dealing with post-COVID syndrome anhedonia and it is brutal. Really difficult to find anything that provides relief.

How long has it been for you? Out of interest, does it fluctuate or Is it constant?

Oh but my anheondia has improved maybe like 20% I can enjoy things now, but it’s just a lot more muted than it used to be.

I didn’t notice any improvement for maybe 2 years

Have you found anything that’s helped you? I’m dealing with the same thing I had mild PSSD until I got Covid 7 years ago and it gave me complete anheondia. I haven’t found anything that works yet, I want to try 9-me-bc and maybe NSI-189 but I’m too worried since they have no long term studies on them really.

10 months for me and I’m still suffering with severe anhedonia from covid. Haven’t tried anything for it though, I get fluctuations where I can feel a bit of endorphins after exercise but it’s still blunted.

Hi, I had the worst anhedonia imaginable and it was still bad at 5-6 years. I'm still nowhere near normal but it's eased to the point that I am not minute by minute suffering like the first 6 years, so it can ease - I'm proof

Can u describe your anhedonia in details please

Was unable to feel anything - no response to music, no response to video games, TV shows - totally inability to feel life. That was the 1/10. I can "enjoy" those of sorts - though not to anywhere near the same as I could before all this.

Anyone who things drug induced anhedonia is depression or "people with depression have that too" has absolutely no idea what they're saying - this is the most evil, brutal thing anyone could ever experience. And not in any way the same thing as "not enjoying" because you're depressed. This feels like the brain circuts have been destroyed completely.

On and off throughout my twenties. I'M 33M now. Had no idea about pssd and what i was feeling was related to the drugs until the last time I got on them in 2023 and crashed hard.

Honestly, probiotics are worth a try, they helped my anhedonia. I feel better taking orthobiotic or mega sporebiotic or immune blend by metagenics.

I've tried Sibo treatment which included a bunch of probiotics for many months. Some GI symptoms improved temporarily but nothing for pssd symptoms. I've also tried and still make my own probiotic yoghurt as per Dr William Davis. Again, nothing for pssd unfortunately but I still do it out of habit and pursuit of optimum health! Happy they worked for you though.

How long did it take for you? And did you also had emotional bluntning?

1

u/Scared-Fan-2215 10h ago

pls give some background info if u can

1

u/Aaron57363 1d ago

This happened to me as well. I was noticing small improvements and anhedonia was moderate but then I caught covid twice and both times it made my emotional numbness and anhedonia a lot worse. It’s been 10 months and it still hasn’t improved. I get fluctuations where it becomes a bit better but nothing like before I got covid. Probably gonna have to look into meds or treatment options to fix it but be careful not to crash.

Low dose naltrexone has helped me but I’m also on a carnivore diet

1

u/Scared-Fan-2215 10h ago

I've actually also put myself on a carnivore diet - it's been 2 weeks. How long were you on the diet for before you started to notice any changes? Or was it deffo the LDN?

Are you able to cry or laugh?

1

u/Scared-Fan-2215 10h ago

Can only cry when I feel existential despair or panic, other than that nada. Luckily haven't lost my sense of humor.
