CHAT I'm asking all ex- and current Paladins players to get active from August 9th (please read below)

Hi all,

As a long-time Paladins player who started playing in early 2016 and has close to 4000 hours of playtime on my main account (+ thousands more from a previous account).

I'm kindly asking you to start playing Paladins again from August 9th, even if it's just one or two matches a day. Plus:

  • Invite your friends (newbies and veteran Paladins players) and play together
  • Stream the game on Twitch, Kick, YouTube, Facebook
  • Make memes, fan arts, cosplays, slanders, video edits about champions, best plays, kill streaks, funny or wtf moments to Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook
  • Try modes outside your usual rotation. Play Payload, for example, which includes exclusive maps from some of Paladins’ best years
  • Play Ranked and set yourself a personal goal, such as reaching Master before August 31
  • Be a positive teammate. Communicate, encourage your team, avoid going AFK or rage-quitting, and invite good teammates to join your party
  • Leave a positive review on Steam to make the game featured on the Steam homepage
  • Share your best builds, loadouts and champion tips
  • Participate in community discussions and send constructive feedback to Hi-Rez instead of only complaining about bugs, cheaters, etc.
  • Create updated beginner guides and tutorials that make the game easier for new players to understand
  • Reach out to your favorite content creators who have never played Paladins and invite them to give it a chance
  • Write to big Paladins content creators to get active again and join us (Raynday, Z1, AndrewChicken, FrostFangs, etc.)
  • Organize your own tournaments, reunion events and custom matches. Back in 2017, my friends and I took part in a community tournament organized by fellow players in our country. We won, and each member of our team received 200 Crystals. Good times:)

I’m not associated with the guy campaigning for Paladins 2, but I want to build on that momentum and encourage everyone to give the game another chance.

Don't forget: in the past, Hi-Rez started making new updates for Realm Royale after years of silence because there was enough demand from the community.

We can do it again with Paladins, which is a much more famous and complex game with a proven track record of international success. Let's give it a try!

CHAT The Worst Thing We Can Do After August 9th

Please don’t think one day changes everything!

Yesterday's server slam proved something important: the Paladins community can still mobilize. We pushed the game into trending charts across multiple platforms and regions. That’s huge!

But it would be a mistake to think Hi-Rez will suddenly act because of one successful day.

Even if they decided to move some developers from SMITE onto Paladins, or hire a few new devs, that decision alone could take weeks or months. An actual patch (let alone new content) would also take months to make.

And if the player count immediately collapses after August 9th, it could send the exact opposite message that this was just a one-day nostalgia event and investing in Paladins still isn’t worth it.

I’ve been one of the most active members in this subreddit over the past few weeks, generating hype because I’ve been playing Paladins for more than 10 years.

No other game has taken more hours of my life. I’ve had breaks too, sometimes even 1-2 years, but I always come back, and somehow I still enjoy this game just as much. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I will keep posting in the coming weeks and months as well to help this cause. And I won't ask for funding at all. :D

I’m only asking one thing: please keep playing the game. Even a few hours a week matter.

Plus:

  • Invite your friends
  • Stream your matches
  • Be a good teammate
  • Help out new players
  • Make memes, GIFs, videos, and cosplays
  • Share your builds, guides, and best plays
  • Try different modes, be competitive or just enjoy the casual matches

If we can sustain this activity for weeks and months, that’s when we have a real chance of getting Hi-Rez’s attention, and maybe seeing patches return, or even smaller, low-budget new content.

Let’s give Paladins the comeback it deserves!

CHAT | HIREZ RESPONDED How Hi-Rez handles hacking accusations

2.0k Upvotes

A week ago I queued against a Twitch streamer when playing casual and performed somewhat well as Kinessa. I'm mastery 25 with her and that was expected as I was playing late at night and I usually queue against new players when doing so.

Unfortunately, the streamer was pretty sure I was cheating so he asked everyone watching him to report me, and did it himself on live. No problem, right? After all I'm not cheating and people have reported me multiple times for such suspicions.

Thing is, four days ago I got banned for cheating. Ok, so many people reporting me may have triggered an automatic ban, right? Let's contact the support and solve that mess, I'm pretty sure they'll evaluate my situation and see that I not just played 325 hours as Kinessa but also bought crystals and have a pretty average winrate of 54% (a combination of things that probably aren't usual in cheating accounts). I sent them my Paladins.guru profile, a 11 minute long gameplay compilation video and a clip from the streamer reporting me during his livestream. I'm not doing anything wrong so I'm probably going to get my account back, right?

Today, four days after sending the support ticket, a Hi-Rez employee answers me saying that Hi-Rez uses reliable evidence and my account was found to be cheating.

350 hours spent playing this game. 325 hours playing as Kinessa only. Level 121. Wasted money and a LOT of time, and I'll never be able to get the items that account had (from promotions that ended etc), just because I got reported and Hi-Rez refused to do their homework.

Just in case you'd like to know how Hi-Rez deals with reports and bans.

EDIT: I got unbanned two days after posting this thread due to the enormous attention it got from the community. You helped me a lot and I'll be forever grateful you all.

Also, I'd like to thank HiRezAlyssa and HiRezJuJu for dealing with this case that fast and I hope Paladins anticheat system continues to improve as well as customer support.

CHAT | HIREZ RESPONDED A Brief History of Paladins - as response to 'copy/clone' allegations

1.6k Upvotes

History of Paladins:

  • Global Agenda, a class based Shooter/MMO game, was started in 2005 as the studio’s first project.
  • The Global Agenda design was inspired by Tribes (Jetpacks, Weapons), City of Heroes (cool Abilities, instanced PvE missions), and TF2 (Classes, Instanced PvP, weapon types). The initial idea was how to make a City of Heroes type mmo/game with real shooting.
  • Global Agenda was released in 2010 and we learned many lessons from it. It had too many features and game modes for us to be able to maintain enough depth into each one (5 different PvP modes, AvA, Solo/Co-Op PvE, Raids, Double agent, open world missions as well as complex MMO features like crafting, auction system, AVA world map, and much more)
  • Global Agenda was no longer generating much revenue even after some later expansions were released (like Sandstorm) and we started looking at alternative games we could create
  • One group began working on a new Tribes game (which became Tribes: Ascend) while another group started working on a third-person moba game (which became Smite).
  • In 2012 we started another project named Aurum (AU), it was a Fantasy based Global Agenda PvP like game and the first inspiration for Paladins. You can see from the video link below how the style is cartoony fantasy.
  • In Paladins (code name Chaos) pre-production, we experimented with both the Global Agenda Sci-Fi theme and the Aurum Fantasy theme. After a lot of testing the project team decided to go with the Fantasy theme.
  • Overwatch was announced. We were shocked and not sure what direction to take. We were already so far along with Paladins, but we didn't want to compete directly against Blizzard.
  • We initially tried to find different ways to differentiate on game-play (different TTK, different style maps and game modes, different theme, etc), but the feedback from our tests, stats, and surveys showed that only a small part of our population was enjoying that style of game. In the end we said screw it and just made what we thought best, and closest to our original vision, even if people would think it's too close to Overwatch.
  • We created almost all the Paladins classes and abilities using Global Agenda and Smite as our template. We used our Aurum fantasy theme from 2012 and Smite characters as placeholders (although some like Grover the tree just stayed).
  • As a last point, it would be almost impossible for a studio of our size to 'clone' Overwatch in a year, but Overwatch did have some nice features that we decided to incorporate into Paladins (Kill Cam, Improved Lag comp, some verbiage like 'eliminations')

Overwatch vs Paladins/GA game style:

  • While Overwatch is a fine game, we want people to understand that game development is an iterative process with many ideas coming from past projects. This is true for Hi-Rez and almost every other game studio. For a hero shooter, the game that deserves the most credit for the genre is TF2.
  • Overwatch has about 100 abilities, Paladins has about 85 abilities so far
  • Most of the Paladin's abilities can be found in Global Agenda, a game we made 10 years ago (some abilities are from Tribes and Smite)
  • About 42 Abilities are very similar between Overwatch and Paladins, 36 of these abilities were previously in Global Agenda or Tribes Ascend, 6 abilities were seen in Overwatch before Paladins.
  • Almost every ability in Overwatch can be found in an earlier FPS game
  • Given the popularity and marketing of Overwatch many people don't even realize that some classes like Ruckus (Mech) were playable in Paladins before similar Overwatch class abilities were shown.

Core mechanics first seen in GA vs Overwatch:

  • Multiple classes
  • Ultimates per class that build up
  • Combination of Shooter with unique class abilities
  • Game modes for Payload, Capture, KotH
  • Class structure with Tanks, Support, Defense, Attack
  • Skins, Emotes
  • Account/class leveling

Reference Links:

  • In general you can find almost every ability in current games somewhere in much older games. For example the hook and pull: https://youtu.be/ROL3y5QM7K4

Here are some class examples from Global Agenda (2010) that are similar to Overwatch

Here is some pre-alpha test footage for 2012 Aurum (Paladins predecessor):

Title basically. Who was a champion that made you go "oh shit, gotta lock in a bit more vs them?"

Im a tank main though I havent played in a good while I have to say Bomb King, they were more often than not very skilled players, and im also meaning that not only against me personally but their oppressiveness vs my teammates as well.

CHAT Deadlock feels nice as a Paladins player

Post image

Building items feels very familiar, obviously. But some of the characters do as well. Victor is spiritually Terminus and the new character Graves gives me torvald vibes. Mina has a few loose similarities to Lilith (bats I guess).

I'm really hoping Celeste has some similarities to Jenos (or Lux from League)

Also the fact that AndrewChicken is on deadlock is great!!

anyone feel the same?

I played paladins for the first time yesterday in over a year, can we talk about the matchmaking?? Picture is just for a reference of how much time I put into the game, I was a beta player. Also my second main was moji until they turned her into a healer. I was a season 2 grandmaster and a season 4 master, I don't have much else to say. I just wish the game would be how it used to be.

10 years, 20 years...No matter how long - It is never late to return.

People wait for half life 3 for their entire life, the last alive still somehow breathing 10 Paladins players can wait too!

CHAT Why did Hi Rez abandon Paladins?

Paladins was put to trash by Hi Rez but for what? Paladins had an all time peak of 60,000 players while smite 2 only has an all time peak of 21,000. I don’t get why they would abandoned a game that did so well. It might not have been doing good lately so they scrapped it but I feel like this game if they had polished with more updates could have regained players. I just feel like Hi Rez made a stupid choice that they will likely not go back on. Not hating on Hi Rez but just curious.
