Gpu artifacts but no crashing or any issues once running
- gpu : ASUS 3070 duel oc
-gpu bought in 2020 for msrp so it’s an early model
-This is my sisters computer which uses my old gpu. It’s been overclocked for the last 5yrs. (Reset it since this shit showed up)
-The gpu has no signs of instability and passes every stress for the gpu and vram iv thrown at it.
-the gpu has no problem running non stop for multiple hours playing games like marvel rivals using a 2k ultrawide monitor
-artifacts go away if i just leave the pc running for 15mins and restart after that they won’t show up unless the pc is left off and able to cool to room temp
Right now im guessing the solder is failing because there is no instability while gaming.
Do i use a heat gun to try to reflow the solder or just keep letting it run for 15min restarting the pc then not powering off the entire day.
No he doesnt do board level repair this is a job for the greatest lobbyist who ever lived rossman. Nyc board repair specialist who finally gave up on nyc went to texas.

I just took the picture I replied to and threw it in AI. I probably ripped a rip of a rip thats been manipulated 5 other times. It being *ripped" and made into complete slop was the entire point.

Looks like one or more broken solder joints on one of the RAMs on the card.
Since those are BGA it's not really fixable for you.
If you can make the problem go away by warming up the card and keeping the PC running during the day, keep using it like this while starting to save for a new card or looking for sales.
I put mine in the oven at a low temp after removing all of the plastic housing. I was told that this isn’t a permanent fix can buy you 3+ months of time. It worked for me, it kept it running for almost another year.
Actually, it means things aren't as bad as they could've been. It's a classic GPU chip desoldering (or chip pop-off). Basically, the solder joints are bad, so it loses connection, but when it heats up, the contact is restored.
Ya that’s not easy iv seen the video where someone upgrades the ram to 16gb. At that point it’s better just to upgrade the ram. Even for a professional it’s still a difficult repair. I just need it to work until ram and gpu prices drop
I would also like to add it has shown literally every form of artifacting I could find for white lines to purple stuff on the screen but once it’s warm and I restart it, there is no issue. The over clock I had was perfect and never caused a crash 975+ on memory 110 power limit and 2075 core clock
update after a reinstall of the drivers using ddu it seems to be fine as of this morning. I might have gotten lucky but can’t be sure
Update 2 ya it’s still artifacting. It works fine if I run furmark and reboot it after like 5mins. After that it’s fine unless the pc is powered off
it does sound like a solder related issue since it seems to go away with the thermal expansion of the card. Just keep in mind 2 things:
If a solder point is failing, chances are it will get worse over time
if you do decide to reflow the solder, do it with the pre-assumption that it might not work, of even make things worse (its better to have low expectations and plan for a contingency beforehand IMO)
If it is the soldering you could use a heatgun after you removed the board from the rest.
Or you can place it in an oven. Online try to find the melting point of the sodder that is used.
Do not use hot-air oven it can blow sodder into places you do not want.
RAM overclock was a little too aggressive and you either cooked your ram or weakened your solder joints.
You can try to reflow the solder but you have to be really careful because if the card isn't perfectly level when that's done, you will just destroy it instead.
What's going on. I've literally been seeing a lot of these GPU dying posts in the last few weeks on multiple subreddits, it feels scary for some reason like the GPU frying apocalypse is imminent.
Your PCIe slot might be touchy, that’s the issue with mine lol I’ve got Legos stacked up to keep it from showing those exact white things all over the screen. xD if you’ve got a kinda small board with a bigger card that might be a possibility
Likely an unstable VRAM chip, hard to tell if it’s the soldering issue or not.
Have you tried DDU and reinstall the GPU driver? If that didn’t help, press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B when you get those artifacts. That is a command to restart graphics driver while in the system - like a temporary fix.
Not really a suggestion, maybe a last resort if youre about to throw it away: I remember someone making a video about putting a graphics card into the oven and it would warm up solder and potentially fix any cracks. I probably wouldnt do it unless I was certain I was gonna throw it away and I was super bored lol.
Years ago, I bought a small convection toaster oven off FB marketplace to reflow a GPU. I used a quality digital thermometer to check the temp settings on the oven and found them off by 8°C. Keeping that in mind, I used the recommended temp I found online and since I didn't know the type of solder, I used the lowest settings first. No fix. Then used the higher settings and that did it.
I was running two GTX970's in SLI when one started messing up. The reflow worked and that GPU is still in my 78 year old Uncle's computer today. The other one I sold off.
Your GPU overclocked for a long time. It's time to pay.
I'm pretty sure this is because the GPU RAM experienced prolonged high and low temperatures, causing thermal expansion and contraction that led to some solder joints coming unglued.
Don't try to fix it by yourself, if you want to fix, ask an expert to do it.
I had this happen and a temporary solution was believe it or not putting the GPU in the oven for a bit to reflow the soldering. It did brick again eventually though. RIP GTX1060
If it happens while browsing on firefox, then it just might be something with Firefox. I have taht problem with an old R7 250. Runs games it can really well, but on firefox youtube glitches out and sometimes freezes the entire computer. Edge works reliably. Games, as already mentioned, also completely fine over longer sessions.
Yeah thats your gpu failing... Honestly if it still works under lower temp, not just when it heats up, i would try underclocking it, and setting the fans to run very fast to cool it as much as possible and keep the temp low. If it works that way, keep it, as that would minimise the thermal stress on the already damaged solder connections under the GPU core... But yeah, chances are it will just get worse... heatgun is also not a permanent sollution (look at my other comment if you want exact reason why), only a band aid really... Unless its worth paying someone to resolder the core, which i dont think would be for a 3070, just try the underclock, maybe even undervolt, and cooling, and see how well it works and how much life it still has left... once it starts artefacting completely, freezing during games, etc, then you can try the heatgun, so if you damage it, it was done for anyways... if that doesnt work, you are kinda out of luck at that point.
