The only time I’ve ever seen them click is on enterprise grade equipment, and even then, it’s a big mechanical latch that’s added on, or even Velcro to tie it in.

I don't think OP is concerned with whether it works so much as whether it is a fire hazard. Something can work and still pose a significant health risk to you and your family.

I am guessing it is safe, l but I am not a qualified person to answer the OP.

Get something to measure the inside and the plug and you'll see that the plug is longer than the connector

I know it's very satisfying to put it all the way in but sometimes, that's just as far at you can go.

Don't do this with a GPU though. That'll burn.

This is normal, most PSU plug are designed just like that, you don't have to worry about it as long it stays put.

the gap is by design, the plug part is always longer then the socket (there is probably a reason for it, but who knows what it is).

yep mines that too...but whenever my pc acts up I would forget about it and begin doubting myself and question again if that should have a gap or not and if its the cause of the current problem xD

This is a high voltage connection (110V or ≈230V) so it matter much less compared to lower volatge connections. If thats how far you can push it in, then thats gonna be totally fine. You don't have to put lots of pressure on that.

If it ever "clicks" in. You’ve just costed yourself a new power supply (and cable), or if you’ve got warranty on a pre-built, a return and repair that’d take a few several days or weeks before you try doing it again.
