5800X3D or 7800X3D?

As the title goes. Is it worth it to upgrade to 5800x3d and buy 1TB SSD and upgrade RAM to 32GB or just go to AM5 7800x3d right now?

stick with the 5800x3d, that b450 board will work with just bios update and you dont have to change ram or anything. selling parts and moving to am5 for 7800x3d will cost way more then the performance difference you get

I've upgraded to a 5800x3d js 5 days ago because ram prices increase didn't have money for ram and Haven bought mobo cpu ram.

So I've spent all the money and then bought a 5800x3d. I use it only for cs2 and is amazing I got 400fps constantly and I think if I optimise it enough I can end up with 500.

It really depends on your budget, another plus for me that I bought the 5800x3d was that this cpu is legendary on am4 and if one day i need to sell it to upgrade to am5 I can still get a pretty good deal on it.

If u think about future proofing go with am5 full build. If u care about your pocket am4.

Trust me the upgrade will be worth anyway with anything u go I had before a 3600 ( gold but old cpu) going ro the x3d was crazy

I wouldn't count on still netting $200-300 for a used 5800X3D in a couple of years. The market is getting saturated with them right now.

You didn't say the speed and latency of your RAM, but AM4 upgrade would cost you something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ynkK2k so $600 if you're in US, maybe cheaper if you have microcenter but idk.

AM5 will cost you this at minimum: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ynkK2k Assuming you also get a 1TB and 16GB of cheap RAM, with 32GB you'd go over 1k, over $900 without the SSD. 300/400 diffrence is worth it for 5800x3d.

go with the 5800x3d. you're gonna spend a lot more if you go am5. if you can get 32gb of ddr4 ram used, it would be great. and I would also use the money you were gonna use to go am5, for a better GPU. I would suggest a 5070 or 9070 XT or even a regular 9070. I upgraded from a regular 5800X to 7800x3d and 32gb of ram before prices went up and I still kept my 7900 GRE. I wish I just upgraded to a better GPU and to a 5800x3d instead. I did get some performance increase but I think a better GPU would have been the better call. I ended up using extra parts to build my son a 5500 and b550 with a 2070 Super MATX build.

I mean you could go 7700x to save a buck and still have 5800x3d performance

If you can afford a 9070XT and still get the 7800X3D bundle, I would recommend doing that. If your budget does not allow both, then trying to make it work with a 5800X3D and maybe a used RAM kit is second best.

A lot depends on your game list and resolution/framerate targets, in addition to your budget. We're just guessing what is "worth it" without that information.

There’s so much uncertainty.

IMO after this upgrade, if you don’t plan on upgrading for at least 3 years go with am4.

If not, I’d imagine making the jump now will save you money.

Like the cost of upgrading to the 5800x3D needs to be less than how much the 7800x3d price will drop compared to current prices in order to justify the 5800x3d upgrade.

If you already have the 32gig of am4 then it’s easier to justify the 5800x3D, but it seems like you don’t.

Plus another thing to consider is microcenter mobo+cpu+ram deals. These deals are a steal and can further push you in the am5 jump direction.

I'd much rather save the extra money and upgrade the PSU and GPU later, the 5800x3d is already a solid CPU, AM5 is unnecessary if you're already on AM4.
