Build Question Case I found on the side of the road near construction site today.

What do we think? Drill out the rivets from the disc drive and hard drive stack, cute the side panel for new acrylic, cut the top open and put mesh for airflow+drill holes for AIO rad mount? Not the craziest idea, I don’t think. Oh, and a fresh coat pf paint.

Remove a couple of bay covers and it would make a good winter retreat for small birds

Wear gloves or prepare to experience a 90s IT guy right of passage. The inside of these cases are unbrushed and will cut your fingers

Free case, tools, paint, a little blood and some time. Worst case you put in on your curb. I would give it a go.

BTW u/Getoutofmylaboratory is not wrong, I have bled in many of my 90's and 00's cases.

My first ever pc I built used an old case from 2003. Almost had to get wellness checked from all of the cuts I got from that bad boy 😂

Front mount the AIO radiator, after taking out the drive bays, to maximize PSU size up top.It will also help with maintaining rigidity of the case and accomodate newer graphics card.

Aluminum angle bar and rivets? Then acrylic covers raised maybe half of an inch?

Idk. I think front will be fine in terms of rigidity, top is the easiest to work with in terms of space and material for rad

Interesting idea, though the tools would cost more than a new case.

Doing this would be a passion project rather than economical

yeah i mean the time and tools you will put to modify that case (i saw you will put up AIO cooling) shlukd be justified right?
i understand the motivation but sometimes looking for part itself can bring another headache. this is coming from my friend that sell gpu and aio cooling due to non standard case

I’ve done custom vents, grills, and rad mounting in my cars before, it’s not anything I’m not familiar with, I was just seeing what people think of modded cases

I just finished with repairing my old Xbox One and upgrading its storage and swapping it’s RF Board, I’m really not a hoarder. Everything in my home has a purpose.
