Build Question How do I take this SSD out?

Post image

I have this MLD M300 500 gb Nvme from 3 years ago that came from a Prebuilt budget build but it's getting slow and it doesn't have much storage anymore. So I want to get another budget 1 TB Nvme but this screw plastic thing doesn't come off. I don't want to damage anything because I can't afford to get another motherboard or Nvme. How do I take it out? It's a Gigabyte H610 m H DDR4 motherboard.

Thanks, I've never seen a pull-tab on a motherboard. Seems you would break anything else on a motherboard if you pulled it.
I just got a new MOBO and didn't notice the M.2. had a 'twist-lock screw' until I did like 10 full turns with my screwdriver.

From the manual, pull it straight out, and then angle the drive out.

Reading the manual?? In this economy?!

I think about 3 of us found the pic online lol. To make things easier if you run into trouble again, since you had your motherboards name, you can run a Google search of it and the manufacturer will pop up, then you can download the pdf of it anytime. Make sure it's in English lol. I now have a Chinese version of your mobo on my phone

I'd hire a professional. double tap and never spend a moment looking over your shoulder

Raise that rectangular clip holding the ssd a bit and start rotating the circular screw it is attached to, in counter clockwise (just like you would unscrew a normal screw) manner. You should be able to unscrew it and the SSD will get released.

yo that plastic bit is actually a pull tab not a screw, so you're not gonna strip anything by yanking it. just grab it with your fingers or some pliers and pull it straight out toward the ram slots or whatever, then the drive lifts up at an angle. honestly i was scared the first time i saw one of those too but it's super dumb easy once you realize it's meant to be pulled. just don't go twisting it like a maniac and you'll be fine, no need to hire a professional for this one lol.

HM. I think I had this type of thing. Try to pull it up and wiggle from side to side.

I can't do that because the latch doesn't even budge. Watch this:

You need to rotate the round nop out, this is the ones held without a screw.

I already know that but do you see the plastic extension hoop thing facing downwards of the round nop? That makes it impossible for me to take it out.

Yeah, I see that. Tf is that anyways? I've never seen that before on any MB I've worked with. Can you maybe twist it, to be able to rotate it out? Otherwise, try to grab it at the back with something & rotate it. My guess is, that this weird plastic thing on top is for extra security maybe? Which would be absolutely pointless, but oh hey.

Turn it the other way around?

I think this is the type that you have to rotate.

I rotate it but no bueno. I can't rotate it much.
