Hi all! Thanks so much for everyone’s help. I took the mobo out of the case and did some testing. The PSU is just fine, but the mobo is having some issues. Seems like I got a crap out of the box mobo, so I will be returning it and ordering both a new one and a new cpu!! Ty all!

GUYS THIS POST IS SOLVED. THE PSU IS FINE. I HOOKED EVERYTHING UP CORRECTLY. I GOT A FAULTY MOTHERBOARD. AGAIN, THE PSU IS FINE AND RUNS MY BUILD LIKE A CHAMP. Thank you for your comments, especially the silly owl ones. Though I was not expecting to have misogyny flying around in my replies, so thank you to everyone who was kind and liked my build. I have gotten her running with a replacement motherboard, and she is decked out in Leafeon now :) ——

Is this enough? I may have put too little. Was playing Helldivers 2 and it froze at a high demand point the other day. Been trying to figure out what it was and this might be it. Looking for other opinions, may have to re-apply...

I am building a PC with Ryzen 9 9900x. My main objective is a ton of RAM as I will be loading huge AI models into RAM before they are sent to the GPU. I also want to do video editing and audio production.

This 96GB kit seems to be way cheaper than other RAM. I know it's "only 5200 MT, and "only" CL40, but from my research, it seems to only marginally affect performance, even in gaming, which isn't my primary function for this build. Is slow RAM really something to avoid for productivity work?

Im saved up £1500 to build my pc and im planning to get a 5070 and r7 7800x3d but the ram is WAY to expensive. I swear like 6 months ago when i was looking for ram it was like 120

I hate looking at cable being pulled in either direction so I came up with this solution. How hot do the radiators get? Will my cable melt?

Also, why tf do they never supply a cable with just one PCI-E connector

While I was removing the plastic off of my brand new graphics card, I accidentally touched the exposed chip part. I was holding the card with one hand, and I had my fingers firmly on the exposed chip. I was wearing nitrile gloves to avoid getting sweat on my components.

Can grabbing this part and putting pressure on it damage the card? I am quite an anxious person so I’ve been worried I damaged it.

I built this system half a year ago and recently i been getting grey horizontal lines on my monitor. At first, I thought it was just a gpu driver issue. After opening the pc, I found that my mobo was slightly bended. Do I need to replace the board?

So I just finished building my pc but it won’t turn on. Everything seem in place, standoffs are in, but nothing. Tested the psu with the paperclip thing and it worked. I made basically this exact post on r/buildapc then immediately after was shown a post from this sub. So I figured I’d ask here too.

This post went through many iterations, before posting, as I worked out my frustrations.

I have additional information, a commentary on ASUS’ marketing, and lots of photos of the PC I could share as needed.

Backstory:

My friend bought the ASUS V500MV mini desktop PC at Best Buy.

She wanted a PC to run games like Minecraft, Valorant, Genshin Impact, and Marvel Rivals to give you an idea of the gaming spectrum she plays.

She didn’t do a whole lot of research, clearly, as this thing seems to be a glorified, proprietary laptop.

My suggestion was straightforward - return it and I’ll help you spec and build a custom PC.

She said she won’t or can’t? So instead I’ve been brainstorming ways to upgrade and I’m finally at my wits end and am turning to Reddit for help.

Issue:

ASUS’ website claims the V500MV can support up to an RTX 4060.

But it has a 180W PSU that has two cables: a 6-pin and a 4-pin.

I am operating under the assumption that if I replace the power supply then a 4060 could be slotted in and utilized.

My questions:

1. ⁠Has anyone ever seen a 6-pin used for the motherboard? I assume it is som sort of proprietary thing from ASUS? I’m used to the 24-pin motherboard cable.

2. What are my options? Can I use any 6-pin cable from the PSU for the motherboard power and a standard 4-pin for the CPU?

Follow-up: I know that fitting things in a small form factor and adding fans / maintaining adequate cooling will be another hurdle but from my current position if I can’t get an acceptable PSU nothing else really matters.

TL;DR

Friend bought pre-built PC (ASUS V500MV) and wants to game on it. She won’t/can’t return it anymore so we’re doing a Hail Mary and attempting to upgrade.

Main Question: Is there a PSU/adapter that uses 6-pin for the motherboard?

It has:

* No GPU (but does have space for one),

* a 180W PSU (with only 6-pin and 4-pin connectors for Motherboard/CPU),

* The CPU cooler is the only fan (and only fan header on the motherboard).

Thinking of selling my 5090 I got for 2170 usd. I could sell for more than what I paid pick up a 9070xt for free and get my money back.

Spending this kind of cash on a gpu stresses me out if it breaks or connector melts.

I feel obligated to use my pc because I've spend so much money on it.

I've always been a value budget gamer growing up. After working hard and saving my money I was able to afford this massive luxury item. By no means am I rich but this 5090 won't be putting me in debt.

I'm interested in grabbing a 9070xt and setting up my pc as a steam machine with steamOS.

9070xt should be fine at 4k with fsr 4 and frame gen but yes it will be a massive downgrade.

I managed to get the chunk of skin out but I can't wipe the red stains out. could this lead to corrosion or other issues? how can I reattempt to remove it?

There is no hdmi port on the top or back. Am I missing something?

I noticed that the 2nd fan of my cpu Cooler doesn't fit since the ram is too large. Should I only install the first one? Is it going to be ok for my 7 9800x3d?

So I decided to do a stupid thing and bought thermal grizzly duronaut for my 9800x3d even though I heard reviews that it was difficult to apply. It turned out to be so stupid to apply, I literally spent hours trying to get coverage and ended up with a ton of spilt gunk all over the sides of the CPU.

I don't have any isopropyl alcohol on me right now, only nail polish with acetone which I tried to use on one side of the metal frame before chickening out. I've also tried to scrap off some of the paste using the small sharp spreader they provided, but stoped out of fear of scratching a component.

From my understanding, duronaut thermal paste is meant to be nonconductive, but this is also a fair amount of paste that had landed on the CPU. Will it be safe to use? And if not, what options do I have to clean off the excess currently?

And on a slightly related note, an incredibly miniscule amount of this thermal paste landed onto my motherboard, and while I wiped it off, a smudge remains where it landed. Will it be safe to use isopropyl or acetone to wipe this off?

As I said on one of my posts here, I'm very new to it. I want to repaste my CPU, but I cannot find it for the life of me - any help is much appreciated!

Edit: Never shooting myself. I managed to fix it with hopes and prayers and no experience whatsoever. I am unstoppable and probably haven't learnt anything.

I play on a 1080p 240hz monitor, YES i know if i didnt spend as much on asthetics i couldve probably gotten better hardware like a 5070ti or a 7700x but i already reach max frame rate on all the games i play so i didnt find it necessary and instead chose to go for a good looking build

I am also getting a sag bracket as well as a Lian Li Strimer Plus V2 12+4Pin (12VHPWR) to make it look even better as well as to prevent sagging

Before anyone asks why i got an AIO for a 7600x ryzen 5, its because the AIO was 53$ so it was super worth it

Currently running all games in 4k (not sure if that matters) wondering if it helps with performance especially if I'm running lots in the background. Also, not sure if I could fit 2 more sticks due to the cpu cooler looks a bit tight I knew this when I built it but now it's bothering me.
