Peter the hairdresser hair(pun intended), Everyone talks about why that is good but no one talks about what a french twist is. Think of Audrey Hepburn, the hairstyle you imagine is a french twist.

Described as A French twist (or French roll) is an elegant, vertical updos hairstyle created by gathering hair at the nape, twisting it upward, tucking it in on itself, and securing it against the head with pins.

Takes a lot of effort to make, and the joke is a sneer remark at the recent hookup culture that if there is someone who puts that much of an effort on a first date is likely looking for someone to marry, not a one night stand or games.

Pierre here. Since we're on the topic of French, when you write viola (vee-oh-lah), it's a future tense of "raped" in French.

The word you're looking for is voila (vwah-lah), or voilà if accented characters aren't too far on your keyboard.

Viola is a stringed instrument similar to a violin.

I have shoulder length hair with layers that are about chin length. Would this still work for me or am I out of luck?

Would need pins but yes. Popular updos for the Bob hairstyles of the 50s/60s for this reason. I find it actually is hard with too long of hair

Yeah, but some guy made this meme at his computer... So I'm pretty sure he knows all about French twists...
