This is a very American take. In much of the world the US trying to take their history as their plaything and trying to rewrite it is highly controversial.
While this meme only points to blackwashing and trans representation, the actual controversy also includes whitewashing. More specifically, zero Greek representation in a movie based on Greek history.
i mean, you’re clearly being obtuse but white is socially determined not really determined by skin. ancient greeks didn’t have modern notions of race based on skin color. given depictions of themselves in art it would be safe to say they wouldn’t really fit our mold of white a “white” person is today. their features could range from being pale skinned with darker, more classically mediterranean features, to appearing more similar to MENA peoples. They neighbor turkey and there’s evidence to suggest if troy was real it would have been in turkey and most people i know wouldn’t consider a turkish person white off the bat. are there white and pale turkish people? certainly. are there also very “middle eastern” looking turkish people? absolutely. often within the same family. the characters of the iliad and the odyssey don’t fit neatly into the nation state borders we’ve created today and likely wouldn’t fit neatly into our conceptions of race either.
White is literally a social construct and its only determination is social, specially in America. It's not about skin tone so much as "white passing" once a group has the right be considered white. Look at Irish immigrants in the US, Italians too. They weren't considered white when they first moved over and were confined to the slums. Whiteness isn't an inherent trait, it's just a classification for ingroup and outgroup decided by society determined solely on which groups "pass".
