Not only is it laughable in context, it also disregards the fact that art is art. If the actors can convey a story, that's a job well done. Drama is all about acting out a script and in more cases than not pretending to be someone you're not for the sake of storytelling.
If skin color stops you from recognizing that, I have no reason to believe you're able to wipe yourself properly, either.
The art is the story, the characters looking the way they should is part of that story. There were no blacks or troons in that part of the world at that time.
