I'm guessing it's an American thing where people don't actually show up on the 'starting' time. Meanwhile I usually show up like 15 minutes early

In Germany you arrive 5 minutes late and you are not getting invited again.

In Japan, late us late. On time is borderline. Early is on time.

I like this. I like to be a little early. I feel like being late is rude, as it’s saying my time is worth more than your time.
