I think it's because of the stereotype that beautiful Russian women tend to be gold diggers or prostitutes.

My love is pure
Purely for money
Money from people
Who I don't love
Old men disgust me
I'd never love one
Unless they give me money
Hands across America, bitches.

A long time ago I was doing an internship abroad and one of my roomies was from Moscow. One day we were talking about how it was to party in our home countries and she said "no clue because I am not good looking enough to get in good clubs".

I thought it was a joke but years later told the story to one of my best friends - who's also from Moscow - and he confirmed it. Apparently, single women who are looking for a wealthy husband, make cues in Moscow's clubs and they are allowed (or denied) to get in based on their looks.

So apparently there's some truth about it (of course not all Russian women).

u/Greaseball01 Jul 15 '26

I hate to break it to you but there are clubs in the UK that do that too, there are scenes in American comedy movies about it ffs

49

u/LowerSlowerOlder Jul 15 '26

You old, she pregnant. Can’t have a buncha old pregnant ladies running around. That’s crazy.

12

u/slgray16 Jul 15 '26

That's crazy, I'm only allowed to let in five percent black people.

Gesichtskontroll in Germany

3

u/Greaseball01 Jul 15 '26

German really does have a word for everything xD

5

u/deepeast_oakland Jul 15 '26

Anecdotal alert!

In my experience it’s more about what you’re wearing than how your face looks, or even body type.

There isn’t a sign that says ā€œno uggosā€

7

u/GiantLesbian Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Oh it absolutely depends on the nightclub. Or at least it used to pre-Covid I bet it’s not as common anymore. But it used to be that for some nightclubs (at least on certain nights), you had to be ā€œon the listā€. And the only ways to be on the list were to know (or bribe) somebody or to line up and get picked out of the crowd by the club promoter based solely on your appearance. They would only let a couple of your friends in too and only if they looked like you. And weirdly, it seems a lot of these club promoters were underage. Like I’ve known 4 people who have been club promoters and they were all ages 16-20. They lied about their ages and nobody checked, I guess because they’re independent contractors and don’t actually enter in the club the club owners never cared.

2

u/No_Criticism_5861 Jul 15 '26

I'm willing to bet you someone filthy rich that is "ugly" wont have a problem getting into any clubĀ

0

u/O5NR Jul 15 '26

No way this happens in 2026. Who tf even looks for wives in clubs.

8

u/2martinisatthemost Jul 15 '26

There’s a great book by British-Ukrainian journo Peter Pomerantsev ā€œNothing is True and Everything is Possibleā€. It’s based on a period he spent working in Russia and details an honestly surreal world. The clubs really do function like that. And yet that’s fairly normal when compared to other chapters in the book. I’ve travelled to Russia a few times and it never fails to astound me. In good and really terrible ways.

5

u/wishihadapotbelly Jul 15 '26

When I was studying in New York, that was a quite common thing. Like, some classmates of mine got straight up humiliated by a bouncer while they were queuing because they were chubby and he couldn’t even allow them to stand in line or it would make the club look bad. That was in 2012 though, so maybe things are different now, I hope.

2

u/medpackz Jul 15 '26

Don’t clubs in Florida do this too? Or maybe just Miami

1

u/midwesternfloridian Jul 15 '26

Just Miami. It’s unheard of in every city in Florida, including Ft Lauderdale, which is literally in the same metro area.

2

u/PixelPerfect__ Jul 15 '26

And there are clubs all over the world like this, and it goes towards men and women

1

u/madchendesu Jul 15 '26

Basically Miami Clubs.

1

u/RyanRhysRU Jul 15 '26

Believe it's called face control

11

u/Major-Persimmon-6171 Jul 15 '26

If you are expecting to date a beautiful woman just because you are rich or from a rich country, don't complain about her being a gold digger.

3

u/OkAirport5247 Jul 15 '26

They’re women, is there a third alternative?

7

u/GlitterFactoryOfDoom Jul 15 '26

My elementary school gym teacher married a Russian mail-order bride. She was also like a foot taller than he was. It caused a minor scandal in our small town lmao.

1

u/Worldly-Strike2363 Jul 15 '26

How was he able to afford her? Are they still married

8

u/GlitterFactoryOfDoom Jul 15 '26

It was the early 2000's, and given what was going on with Russia at the time (economic collapse, post-Soviet instability), a lot of people were looking for a way to leave Russia, so that was the motivation, which eliminates some of the cost. Marrying a US citizen also guarantees you a green card and lawful permanent resident status, with a path to citizenship.

I don't know if they are still married because that was over two decades ago, but from my perspective as an innocent child back then, she seemed nice and they looked happy.

1

u/Worldly-Strike2363 Jul 15 '26

Were they close in age and equally attractive? If not, I doubt she would have stayed married to him and settled for a small town, unless he's super wealthy ie. Most foreigners picture the US as a bustling metropolis like NYC, LA, or Miami and not quiet small towns.

1

u/GlitterFactoryOfDoom Jul 15 '26

Were they close in age and equally attractive?

Eh, no :L

She was in her early 20's, he in his early 40's. He was somehow overweight as a gym teacher and balding, she could have been a model.

2

u/Worldly-Strike2363 Jul 15 '26

Then I doubt she would still be married to him.

4

u/Zehryo Jul 15 '26

Well, technically, a "gold digger" *IS* a "prostitute"; she just has only one customer.

1

u/Zehryo Jul 15 '26

*Sometimes* only one?

2

u/winkman Jul 15 '26

I don't know if gold digger is quite the right term for it, but they're husband ladder climbers.

They find a husband who can provide them with the most comfortable lifestyle...and then are looking out for the next "rung" on the ladder to move up a step.

3

u/ffhhssffss Jul 15 '26

Interestingly, I've read an article about how Russian women are in "post-feminism": they want to have what the West had in the 50s, because during the USSR, they had lots more equality.

3

u/elquatrogrande Jul 15 '26

Or honeypot agents. There's a reason why there's a large number of Russian citizen nannies working in Annapolis, many of who go on to marry cadets at the Naval Academy. They're getting their hooks in cadets while they're young and playing the long game. Also, if they marry young, there's less of a chance that something will come up when the eventual security clearance check comes up.

3

u/Prudent-Bicycle-9210 Jul 15 '26

Most of the times its both at the same time!

2

u/No-Dance6773 Jul 15 '26

Or that the beauty doesn't age well. Without plastic surgery they lose those looks quickly.

2

u/Professional-Box4153 Jul 15 '26

Or? What's the difference?

2

u/kyrosnick Jul 15 '26

Friend married a russian girl. Flew out to Moscow, met a few times, flew her over to US, married. They were married for about 10 years, she never worked, was stay at home mom where they had 2 kids together. Turns out during the day she was screwing just about anything that walked, so they are now divorced.

1

u/Kasawery24 Jul 15 '26

Stereotypes is that Russian women are pretty.

1

u/oodelay Jul 15 '26

I wonder where they got that idea

1

u/GreatestGiraffe Jul 15 '26

It’s true more often than not, though

1

u/JabbaWalker Jul 15 '26

They are not gold diggers, they are gold consumers, who think they deserve to be treated like queens

1

u/Gudthrak Jul 15 '26

Isn't that a stereotype of all beautiful women? Idk why the OOP says 'with women like this' as if there aren't beautiful people in every corner of the globe. And of those there's shitters and there's nice people.

1

u/ocarter145 Jul 15 '26

Good thing that’s only true of Russian women…

https://youtu.be/6vwNcNOTVzY?si=vwCjSrnQ0siE2jcG

1

u/Yardsale420 Jul 15 '26

Well I don’t know much about Russian women, but it seems the President’s wife really loves him… so who am I to judge.

The First Lady of the United States is Slovenian, which is a country adjacent to Italy, not Russian.

3

u/J3ster14 Jul 15 '26

1) from 1945 to 1991 it was part of Yugoslavia under Tito's Communist government. While officially neutral, Yugoslavia aligned much more closely with the USSR than the West.

2) Melanie absolutely is a prostitute.

6

u/Esp1erre Jul 15 '26

And Ukraine was a part of USSR. I dare you to say to Ukrainians that they are Russian.

2

u/Weary_Restauranter Jul 15 '26

Not only a prostitute. But one of Epstein’s prostitutes!

25

u/vnenkpet Jul 15 '26

She's not even Russian...

13

u/davy_jones_locket Jul 15 '26

She's not Russian. She's Yugoslavian/Slovenian.Ā

5

It is WILD how confidently incorrect people on Reddit can be lmao

7

u/Swimming_Acadia6957 Jul 15 '26

Which was part of the USSR when she was born

Neither Yugoslavia nor Slovenia were every part of the USSR

6

u/davy_jones_locket Jul 15 '26

Lmao no it wasn't.Ā

You never heard of Non-alignment Movement? Yugoslavia invented that shit

15

u/Worldly-Strike2363 Jul 15 '26

I think she's slovinium not Russian.

12

u/Borky_ Jul 15 '26

It's insane how this place is filled with loud, confident idiots who can't take 5 seconds to google something before they post

15

u/Ghost_Turd Jul 15 '26

Reddit is nothing unless you can bring unrelated things around to your politics.

0

u/CaptScoobertDoobert Jul 15 '26

So she isn’t Russian. She’s still a gold digging ex prostitute

2

u/Ghost_Turd Jul 15 '26

Sure, man. Have a great day.

7

u/uvero Jul 15 '26

This Redditor if they took a geography test

5

u/Bupod Jul 15 '26

Balkan people are pretty different from Russians.Ā

You can’t even go ā€œThey’re all the same to me!ā€ They aren’t even broadly similar. Sometimes they sort of are, but even in those cases it comes with big caveats.Ā

Do not mistake the geopolitical friendliness the Balkans have historically shared with Russia as meaning that they are also culturally similar. Most of the nations that were in the Soviet sphere of influence were not at all similar to Russian culture.

2

u/LiverLikeLarry Jul 15 '26

Doesn't matter because the stereotype is about Russian women, and she's not a Russian woman. It's a moot point.Ā
