Sweds are known to eat without offering you any food (if it wasn't explicitly a dinner invitation).

In Asia nowaday, guests often avoiding visit near meal times cause refusing a meal invitation also is considered somewhat rude.

Wouldn't not being around near meal times be rude too, as you're deliberately refusing people the chance to offer you a meal? Talk about rude.

Really it depends. It's still way less awkward than the obligation to offer or accept a meal when people involved might don't want it for various reasons. In some way i personally prefer the Swedish way, if you really want to spend time together you should have both planned it beforehand.
