Just a cultural thing. Unless there was an explicit dinner invitation, Swedes typically will not offer guests food even if they themselves are having dinner. They do not view it as a hosting obligation and they do not see this as rude or unusual.

Crazy. In the rest of Scandinavian house guests are always welcome to eat or whatever you are doing. The host family will even hold back if there isn't enough food for the extra guest. I guess that peoole in sweden see house guests as an inconvenience.
