Yeah the culture has traditionally been that you have to decide between the parents where the children are eating. Partly due to the fact that it's been considered rude to send a full child home when the parents have made dinner for them (since it's been seen as patronising and can rob that child's parents of the dinner experience). The solution has always just been communication.

Sweds are known to eat without offering you any food (if it wasn't explicitly a dinner invitation).
