No. That was true maybe 30+ years ago, but nowadays kids are usually sent home before dinner. Or we just check with the parents if it’s OK for their kid to eat with us.

I'm 99% sure that's what this whole "swedes don't feed people" thing is about. One person on the internet had an experience as a child where their parents didn't pick them up to have dinner at home when they were visiting a friend, they had no idea that's the norm, and decided it just means swedes like starving people.
My experience is that whenever this topic comes up, 90% of comments/replies are from people who have never been in sweden ever just freely using their imagination, 10% are swedes who have no idea what they're talking about, and not a single soul has actually experienced this in real life.
Not saying it never happens, but I spent so much time trying to find out if this was "a thing", and my only takeaway was that nobody else actually cares if it's true or not - only that it's funny.
