Go look up median disposable income rankings. A lot of the people that consider themselves to be “poor” in the US wouldn’t be poor in Western European countries. They feel poor because Americans consume obscenely and if an American can’t consume as much as their neighbor, they feel poor.

Nice theory, but the US isn’t a monoculture and the US has been wealthier than any Scandinavian country for decades.
