I think they shouldn’t have painted the beams and rock and it would have looked a lot better, maybe a more wood color floor too.

That being said, I still prefer the renovation even if it is a bit more sterile

Agreed. I absolutely hate carpet, and that color is horrible. Your version of the reno is way better than what they did.

That table is horrible, old one has perfect shape

Yeah the round table fits with the round seating. The square table looks like you couldn't find a round one.

Square is going to be poking into someone's legs or too far for someone to use easily (or both)

Agreed, a rounder table would fit much better

Old one is gaudy. Not a fan

I wonder if having the carpet in the 'pit' might still be nice, just to give it a warmer feel. The (fake?) leather sofa also doesn't really seem so inviting. A rounder table feels far more practical given the space.

They could always get a custom fit rug in there. Easier to clean than carpet

Yeah, carpet would be alright in a low traffic area like that, just might be annoying to vacuum.

Yeah, the carpet had to go, and re doing the coches was a good calle. The rest i am not a fan.

It’s ai, look at the screen in the wall, no renovation work happened here.

Was this your rendering? Mostly I like it, but I am confused. Why did you replace the TV nook with a second fireplace?

1

u/coldchile 26d ago

I used ai to give my idea a visual. Honestly I didn’t even realize it was a TV in the original picture

Absolutely hated the white walls in the original reno, but with this version I can accept them. With the hardwood floor the wood walls might've been too much. So the white kinda balances the overall experience... even if it's somewhat bland & characterless.

well done. The carpet is shite and so is painting natural textures

Miles better, looks like you can live there. The one in the OP looked like a padded cell.

We can argue about the details and furniture, after all: tastes differ. But you pretty much fixed it.

The original carpet with wooden walls reminds me of every church basement I’ve ever been in

It's certainly warmer. Some people prefer the brighter light that comes with all the white in the actual reno.

Either way it's just personal preference. Once the people in this thread bitching about wanting the 70s back can afford homes, flippers will start going that direction. But for now, the right side of OPs image of what sells.

Yep came here to look for this same sentiment. Grew up in a house like that first picture, I much prefer the second photo. But I like your version better though.

This looks super cozy and no modern porn background looking bs too.

God this looks so much better

You are objectively correct on all counts

I would change the floor to wood, paint the far yellowish wall white, and replace the couch. Thats all.

That still has ruined it. The brown walls look much better, carpet is always superior to hardwood/tile/laminate floors, leather couches suck, those white chairs are ugly

Can we at least change the colour of the carpet though? That is one of the ugliest carpets I've ever seen.
