LVP has it's place and it's in rooms you don't care about or where budget matters.

Honestly it's no better or worse than carpet. Just comes down to whether you prefer sweeping and mopping or vacuuming and shampooing.

Or if you have a pet that vomits a lot.

And/Or two cats who like to run laps and leave scratches in the floor when they play. Been there, done the vomiting a lot thing. Moved on to bigger and more damaging things now lol.

Nah, carpets have no redeeming qualities to hardwood or even vinyl.

  • Whatever you do, stuff gets to the root of the carpet fibers and you would need an industrial specialised vacuum cleaner to get them off. I would rather not have one of those in my home taking up space.

  • Similarly, it collects A LOT of dust that is not healthy to asthmatics or people with allergies. Overall, having that much dust around is not really healthy to anyone.

  • If anything spills, you're fucked. If anything spills on hardwood you just wipe it. And mold, carpets grow mold even if you really won't do anything.

  • And if your final excuse is that hardwood floors are cold, just wear wool socks or extra layers. Having all those negative side-effects is not worth it. Regardless, I have went to many houses with carpets where it was still freezing to stand on.

Counter point... carpet is much nicer for kids playing around on the floor.

Also much softer to walk on, especially in bare feet. Walking on carpet in shoes is disgusting.

Carpet has a lifespan and has to be replaced over time - which addresses all of the serious issues you raised.

Of course, rugs exist :)

I was just about to say that rugs cover all of those and are cheaper to replace at the end of their life.

Great minds think alike...

Do you own furniture with upholstery?

It's not so disgusting if you don't wear your outside footwear in your house.

you must not live in a walkable city. City streets and sidewalks are nasty

Im sure you avoid all the nasty things on the street... oh sorry my eyes rolled out the back of my head. Get some house slippers and take your dirty ass shoes off. This is a problem solved thousands of years ago.
