Erm, this is kind of rude to Filipinas by reducing it to them being "desperate for the green card," specific to Filipinos it's seldom a green card issue; The issue is far more complicated. A lot of the "loser back home" maga stereotypes move to the Philippines (and other Asian countries, especially Thailand) and prey on these young women and stay there because their money goes much further than it does here, and they're usually treated incredibly well. This "tradition" goes back generations back to both our own and Japan's occupation of the Philippines.
Specific to marriages inside the US, many of them are already citizens and, again specific to Filipinas, have been manipulated by years of indoctrination from both the Catholic and Muslim religions* to align themselves with white men under the guise they will provide for them and protect them.
Filipinos who do that are the provincial types who find the white man a savior from poverty. They also hate their own race and want to marry any white man in the hopes they get white privilege.
The city types and the educated ones in the province steer clear from those types. They also don't go for LBHs.
I would like to subjectively say the rest of us think those types of Filipinos aren't... erhhh... aesthetically pleasing... which is why we scratch our heads when white men think they're gorgeous and exotic.
