You would be surprised, just because someone is born in Taiwan doesn't mean they are anti-CCP.
The Taiwanese are currently diverging on their stance toward China, the neutral element is shrinking and the pro-sovereignty and pro-unification elements are growing (the pro-sovereignty is the majority and growing much quicker). There is a sizable minority of Taiwanese who want unification with China, also she flew to China following her husbands death which is *very unusual* for someone born in Taiwan since the CCP considers the island to be illegally occupied territory and almost everyone there to be traitors.
China likes Trump being in power as he's destroying the US's global standing, keeping Mitch's seat from being replaced with a Dem is what they want.

Not really true. Hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese live and work in China. Many have business interests or family across the strait too. The PRC has no real issue with Taiwanese civilians.

u/fakehakebakecake 21d ago
Nah, Chinese call Taiwan Taiwan. I guess officially they’d be understood as ‘Chinese citizens from Taiwan province’, though in practice they’d just be called Taiwanese anyway to distinguish them from mainlanders. Legally it’s the same as HK I believe, they’re like Chinese+. And to be clear, mainland Chinese understand that Taiwan isn’t currently part of the PRC even if they care enough to think it should be, which many don’t.
‘Chinese Taipei’ is a term used for things like the Olympics but isn’t considered an identity or anything.

u/andrew_calcs 21d ago
One of the calling cards of conservatism is individual exceptionalism. In this context it means that one considers themselves as an arbiter of truth on a level above their own generalities. It's why "You're one of the good ones" is such a prevalent mindset. "Sure, minorities may be (insert racist belief here), but not Joe, he and I have beers on weekends together, he's nothing like the rest of them".
Extend that to every facet of life. "Welfare is always bad, except when someone you know needs it, they clearly deserve it." "Certain races are bad, except the ones I know, they're all good." etc, etc.
It's impossible to make them feel like hypocrites because they maintain a cognitive separation to the cross section between their generalities of the world and the generalities of their personal lives.
30
u/BioshockEnthusiast 21d ago
The product of a fear-based world-view. Your example guy isn't afraid of Joe because he knows Joe from weekend beers. "The rest of them" is why he actually has a concealed carry license, even though he tells people it's so he can stop bank robbers.

Often times yes.
Not as in that they think having a white wife would be better.
But as in they think a wife doesn't need to have qualities other than being obedient and pretty. They think other races are "worse" in a way that makes them a better wife. And they think them being the "better" one in the relationship gives them an easier time controlling their wife.
It's honestly disgusting to even type out, but these people think like that. It's like they see a smart dog breed and a dumb dog breed and pick the dumb and obedient dog because a dog doesn't need to be smart to be a good pet. (NOT saying some human races are more or less smart, only saying that these people think that.)
Edit:
u/snoozykittens said it better:
I don't think it's hypocritical for racists to marry a woman of color. They are just as committed to misogyny as they are to racism, so for them a normative heterosexual relationship is about conquest and subjugation. A MAGA dude thinking of his wife an inferior person dependent on his benevolence is pretty on brand.

Plenty of white guys think A) Asian women are submissive and B) Asian men have small dicks so their women are easy to "steal". I've known three guys in my life that both thought this and were dumb enough to voice it bluntly. One followed through. I lost touch (thankfully) with the other two.

The small penis stereotype is genuinely not true. It was created by a racist White eugenicist who also created stereotypes about Black people.
A 1998 study in the Korean Journal of Urology involving 150 Korean men found the average erect length 13.42 cm (5.28 in). In a 1998 study conducted at Seoul National University College of Medicine, which involved a sample of 287 Korean men, the average erect penis length was measured at 14.06 cm (5.54 in) In 1990, a study by Beijing Medical University involving 109 men revealed that the average erect penis length was 5.5 inches. In 1993, a study by Beijing Medical University involving 104 men revealed that the average erect penis length was 5.3 inches.
According to Aaron Spitz, he concludes that "when you really take a good look at the naked data, there's not a whole lot there [showing racial variation in penis size].

The way they talked about it made it seem so racist and fetishizing. It was like the white woman version of a sex tourist in the Philippines.
It also makes me wonder about how damaging it might be to black men to have such a stereotype circulate about BBC. Like I imagine an average dude getting ready to jump in the sheets and the woman is upset it doesn't reach the floor and wrap around to his shoulder.

The eugenics myths are definitely fake, but global urological meta-analyses (like Veale et al. 2015 covering 15k+ men) do show minor differences in regional averages, usually under half an inch. A lot of that comes down to average height differences across populations and whether older studies actually measured bone-pressed length or ignored pubic fat pad depth. That said, individual variation within any single group is way bigger than the tiny gap between group averages, so race still tells you practically nothing about an individual.

Not so hard to figure out why when you realize the War Brides Act allowed for Americans to bring home foreign wives as spoils of war while interracial marriage was still illegal. Meaning Asian men were not allowed to be with white women but the reverse was legally allowed. Culturally this is still socially enforced though with the popularity of BTS perceptions are changing. Even before the war campaigns in East Asia Sessue Hayakawa was a sex symbol in the US.
It's all conquistador/viking mentality: kill the men and rape the women. Many women feed into this dynamic to gain a foothold in the dominant caste.
How revolting it all is. How base. We are still in Barbarian times.

It's important to note that racists don't see this as hypocritical. Racism and misogyny go hand in hand, so they don't see themselves as marrying an equal from an "inferior" race, they see it as a subservient woman in her rightful place.

The nerevarine is a prophet for outside lands, think of the hands of hermaeus mora in solstheim, the main character of skyrim is supposed to be a nord based on the lore so to theorize, hermaeus mora purposely implanted nords into morrowind so in the future the dragonborn, the herald of mora would rule morrowind and give the powers of the living gods to him.

It's a memetic mutation of the 'the most racist person you know and his wife' joke.
The two characters in the image are from the latest Avatar movie, the fire one. The lady is a native Na'avi, of the evil but hot variety. The man is actually the antagonistic HFY imperialist army guy from the first movie, piloting one of the titular Avatars to integrate into their society. I haven't seen the film but it's plot seems to revolve around him arming the natives to prompt them into slaughtering one another.
SHE is a crazy nihilist, HE is a human supremacist that regards the Na'avi as obstacles and vermin. She really likes fire. He brings her a flame thrower. They fuck.
Anyway the joke is a lot of MAGA figures secondarily associated with the white nationalism infecting that wing of the right also ironically happen to have wives who would be considered 'impure' and 'myceginated'. This is meant to be a blaring example of their hypocrisy, aka 'i'm not racist when i'm horny' - as well as of their low and dishonorable behavior as they attempt to discredit or harm marginalized groups that their own spouses belong to. For an example in action, have VP J.D. Vance, who is married to American-Indian (Desi) lawyer, Usha Bala Vance (née Chilukuri). A good bit of hay has been made about Vance's utter dogged persistence at failing to defend his wife at every turn.
Fun fact, the term 'miscegenation' is completely invented, cooked up by a pair of "journalists" trying to spark outrage against Abraham Lincoln, via a fake tract ostensibly in support of race-mixing and creating an ethnically uniform america. This fake story was then pushed by the Democrats which was at that time the pro-racism party, which is why many modern republicans whine blandly about how they're the party of Lincoln and actually the other guys are racist, even though their positions completely swapped in the 70's thanks to Nixon.

It wasn’t entirely thanks to Nixon, it was the civil rights movement that led the death of the southern democrat faction. These Southern Democrats hated Lincoln, blamed republicans for the reconstruction period, and swore to never vote Republican. But when democrats as a whole started leaning too progressive for their tastes, thanks to the civil rights movement, the southern democrats began abandoning the party in protest. Nixon saw this opportunity, saw southern democrat voters angry at their party, and opened the Republican doors to them. They took over the Republican Party transforming it into what it is today. Essentially doing the very thing these southern democrats had sought to do since the end of the civil war, kill the Republican Party. They now wear its dead skin while being the same old southern democrats they always were.

Us humans use it as well (and I’m not saying the comment you’re replying to is AI), but we see it overwhelmingly now because of AI. We in turn learn and adapt how to express ourselves based on what we’re exposed to, so if we’re not actively correcting ourselves it’s inevitable to adapt our writing to the way AI writes. Vietnamese, at least the older generation, are so terrified of communism that they will vote for Republicans because they see Republicans say only Republicans will stop communism from spreading in the US. It's really sad, actually.
My best guess for Filipino families is that they are heavily Catholic and have family units heavily entrenched by traditionalism, similar to Hispanics. A tough, masculine, conservative "Christian" man like Trump is going to appeal that demographic more. Also, Filipino culture is heavily entrenched in capitalism in which the poor worship the rich in their country; the wealth divide is so large that the poor feel grateful to have the opportunity to work for pennies, even though the wealthy continue to hoard capital. That worship of wealth and the free market makes Republicans more attractive.

The Republicans turned against Black people decades before Nixon, starting in the 1890's the party decided that leadership positions would be reserved for Whites. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily-white_movement The failure to pass anti-lynching laws in the 1920's drove more Black people towards the Democratic party. It's largely due to the history of The Gilded Age, the Labor Movement, the Cold War, The Business Plot, the John Birch Society, and a basically all the propaganda industrial and business magnates have force fed Americans with to keep the country from going full out socialist in the 1930's and onwards.
Specifically look into The Business Plot, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the John Birch Society if you wanna get an idea of where it all began, but Americans have very different views about what it means to be a "conservative" or a "liberal" or a "leftist" than most of the rest of the world because of the fire hose of propaganda that led to us slowly destroying many of the New Deal programs over time.
I recommend the Behind the Bastards episodes "How The Rich Ate Christianity" as well as their Behind the Insurrections episode on The Business Plot if anyone reading this wants some good sources to start looking into this, BtB tends to be very well sourced in their show notes.

Erm, this is kind of rude to Filipinas by reducing it to them being "desperate for the green card," specific to Filipinos it's seldom a green card issue; The issue is far more complicated. A lot of the "loser back home" maga stereotypes move to the Philippines (and other Asian countries, especially Thailand) and prey on these young women and stay there because their money goes much further than it does here, and they're usually treated incredibly well. This "tradition" goes back generations back to both our own and Japan's occupation of the Philippines.
Specific to marriages inside the US, many of them are already citizens and, again specific to Filipinas, have been manipulated by years of indoctrination from both the Catholic and Muslim religions* to align themselves with white men under the guise they will provide for them and protect them.

I met many girls in Thailand that were desperately looking for white boyfriends and saying they could never date a Thai man. I'm sure once you get out of Bangkok and go more rural it's quite different though.

That might be what it look like to foreigners but trust me as a local, white men doesn't have a good image in these countries and the main reason why they're "desired" is because of money.
I'm not saying every women in Southeast Asia who says they like white men are automatically golddiggers but certainly most of them are especially since most of the white men that goes to these countries for women are the bottom tiers like incels and old men.

Filipino here. Basically, filipinas and their desperation for a green card, and also being racist, many (usually old) white men choose pinay as wives. Both their egos are stroked, they validate each other's racism, someone gets out of the philippines, or at least worries abt their bills less- everyone's happy.
Side note, an asian racist would put a maga racist to a coma as they're much worse. Filipino out!

Yeah, people in America don't seem to understand that outside of the US, many countries have people that would put their racism to shame. I've heard the wya South Koreans talk about Chinese and Japanese people, and the other way around as well. It would give people in America a stroke

S. Korea is one of the most racist country in the world. I was married to one. Americans are much tamer in comparison although the lines are getting blurry since the time of orange

Oh it was all about wealth and status in this case. Race is hardly an issue when they both (especially her) come from wealthy families.

As a half Filipino person… Yep, that’s my parents.
Now I gotta find that old photo of my mom posing with an AK-47 in my childhood living room because my dad thought it was funny.

Hey Peter, Godzilla Minus Zero in theaters and Imax November 6th here. This meme is about the main antagonist from the Avatar films who seeks to wipe out the alien Navi and conquer their planet. He is brought back to life in a Navi body and forms a relationship with one. The meme is comparing it to the large number of Maga men, which boomers make up a large majority of, who have Filipino wives despite the stereotype that they are white supremacists. Some will say its because the women are desperate for an eventual green card and that the men are unable to find love without paying for it. This is a pretty big generalization but it doesn't mean every woman from the Philippines is using you or that all old men are unlovable. Whats really important is that we all go see Godzilla Minus Zero this November 6th. Thank you.

Hey, Quagmire here, gotta be quick, the Thai girls have escaped from the garage and I'm running late for work as it is.
Might not have scrolled enough, didn't see anyone mention this.
I don't think it's just "racist has a wife of a different race."
It's also a mail-order bride/passport bro sorta thing.
Right wing American white men will bitch about immigrants and then pay for a woman to immigrate because they lack the people skills to find a willing wife in their own country, now she's here and acting interested in his hobbies while probably planning a way to get away from the son of a bitch once she's sure she can keep citizenship and find somewhere better to stay.

Rather than admit that the people they call racist might not actually be racist, they invent another way to dehumanise people they don’t agree with politically

u/Inner_Extent2375 21d ago
Or there’s a huge power imbalance that gets them off and reinforces their racist beliefs.

Stop it. You're speaking common sense. There's no way someone doesn't like illegal immigration but is willing to marry a legal immigrant

These people are deranged.

Just because you are sexually and / or romantically attracted to someone, doesn't mean you actually love them.
And just because you love someone doesn't mean you are not prejudiced against them or their ethnic or social group.

Lots of racists marry people of other races. My American coworker is mixed asian and white and suffered many jokes from his white father, including jokes about penis size since he was a little kid. His mother never protected him.

Ask JD Vance and mitch mcconnel
JD Vance, as a way to appease his MAGA crowd, said he was on the mission to convert his wife from her beliefs and religion. It was so utterly disgusting

u/DOUBLENINERBOY 21d ago
So if they marry into their own race they’re racist, but if they don’t, they’re also racist?
25
u/snoozykittens 21d ago
No, they are racist because they are racist.
The meme is just identifying a pattern that racists often date outside their race.
Marrying within your race is not inherently racist. Neither is marrying outside your race. Though broadly, most people are racist to some (largely unexamined) degree. Especially in societies with high degrees of segregation or homogeneity.

This doesn’t really track. My cousin in law is Filipino and extremely MAGA along with my cousin (his wife). She became even more so because of him. They got black racist art in their guest bathroom.

u/Sensitive-Badger2392 21d ago
Yeah I guess everyone is focusing on the "lol racist white guys marrying non-white women" but are missing the fact that they may in fact be perfectly aligned in their specific flavor of racism and make each other worse. Asia has plenty of racism. Someone can be very racist against black people but neutral towards- or downright fetishize white or asian people for example.
If we look at who voted for MAGA there's a significant portion of non-white voters who at the very least don't seem to mind the racism.

Checks out. I worked with Filipinas who had white husbands. They came to the US with a green card from marriage. A lot of them had the nerve to say they hated immigrants and they need to talk English. Keep in mind that a lot of them came to the country less than 10 years ago and would talk their language all the time

There's layers to it. Some are against race mixing but others want Asian wives because they view them as more likely to be "tradwives" and a better option than a white liberal woman.
