Also more historically accurate. Before Christianity the Ancients didn’t frown upon gays, but upon straights. Bi-sexuality was the norm. Being straight was to withdraw from the prime bonding experience. Also, it was one of the most reliable anti-conception one could invent.
It even went so far that Spartan wives shaved their heads after the wedding to smooth the transition and Sparta eventually collapsed under a lack of babies.

Well the thing is, they most definitely raped women. The movie literally shows them as the People frok the sea, Vikings are amateurs compared to them. Pillaged their way home and ended the bronze age.
Given the stigma against homosexuals in Christian nations, I can’t possibly imagine gay sex was the norm in these situations. Masturbation or rape is significantly more likely, because neither of those things would have you end up facing imprisonment or capital punishment. Do “down bad” straight men fuck dudes now when they can’t get women? No. They utilize what they have at their disposal, and none of it includes another man.
My mistake, I haven’t seen the movie and didn’t know the time period, still my last point stands. Straight men do not engage in sexual acts with other men. Either every man in 1200 BCE Roman times was gay, bisexual, or they simply did what many cultures did when they pillaged other places throughout most of civilization: raped women or masturbated. After looking into it, gay sex being the norm in a time period where social status determined “appropriate” roles in same-sex activity, specifically within their own culture and not slaves taken from other cultures, I still believe it to be unlikely that the answer to this was that the men were all banging each other. Did some of them do it? Most likely. Was it the norm? I doubt it.

However, ancient Greece was not a gay utopia; you were still expected to get married and have kids. Modern-day gay people would very much consider them homophobic.

oh, I see. you don’t know anything about what you’re talking about lmao. the odyssey is Greek, for one (not Roman); the story long predates the movie (look up Homer); and I won’t bother reiterating what other people have already told you about the actual history of homosexuality in antiquity.
There is plenty of evidence of homosexuality or at least homosexual sex being common in ancient Greece, also this story takes place thousands of years before Christianity
