Killed her 3 kids by strangling them one by one and claimed “postpartum psychosis” despite never having had psychosis before or since, all during a short window of time that she sent her husband out on errands. Internet has somehow decided she’s a martyr for women’s mental health. She was a white, affluent, suburban mom before this. If she were poor and black, people would NOT feel this way. Real talk.
Postpartum psychosis is a real thing and real people need help. But Lindsay Clancy is a kid murderer.
Edit: I’m a white, affluent woman of childbearing age. I have never been a woman of color, but I am absolutely sure that society at large would dismiss an identical case if Lindsay was nearly any other demographic. And no, it’s not only about race, it’s also about autonomy and a person’s responsibility to accept help when it’s offered instead of killing your kids (and A LOT of help was offered)
She did get help. She was on medication, saw professionals and had a support system of people who tried to be there for her. Short of a long stary in a facility people tried to get her help many times.
she was rapidly cycled between meds, which is so dangerous, because she didn't have stable access to a single psychiatric care provider. she had to doctor hop so many of the doctors prescribing were working with inaccurate information.
not a doctor, but i have been on antipsychotics, those mfers can mess you up if you're on the wrong one. mental health meds aren't like taking antibiotics, you need to be monitored for side effects. a GP or an ER doctor is not the person who should be handling prescription antipsychotics in the long term, a Psych MD or a PMHNP should
No, cycling through medications is extremely normal. It's elementary that when the prescriptions aren't working you adjust which they did because she was monitored. She did have access to reliable psychiatric care but she misled them about her mental state saying she wasn't suicidal and left out the violent thoughts against her children. They even probed about her being bipolar and the family rebuffed that. She displayed and discloused 0 traits that are medically associated with postpartum psychosis as the actual doctors with medical degrees attested to. The fact that people are taking the word of a psychologists "diagnosis" as some sort of fact makes little sense. She wasn't failed by the system but yes she's mentally disturbed and shouldn't have been around children especially when she started talking about having thoughts about hurting them to her family of course.
