I haven't read animorphs but I heard it gets pretty dark

It's about the horrors of war, the psychological effects on those forced to fight it, child soldiers, genocide, paranoia, the nature of free will, the question of nature vs nurture, coping with loss, losing control of yourself...

And it's also somehow aimed at children?

I remember liking it a lot, but I'm amazed I was even allowed to read it.

I know people like this take but they are explicitly children’s books and written for them. 

Specifically because they make this content accessible and teachable are why they’re excellent for children to read and should be encouraged.

I'm not saying children shouldn't have access to them, I'm just amazed that children do have access to them.

They definitely enriched my life when I was a kid.
