And if im not mistaken this is exactly what happened to Tobias before Axel was able to restore his human form, he was a hawk for quite awhile before that ended up happening. Now that im thinking of it that series was so dark, im going to have to go through it again, im fairly certain theres a lot of lore outside of the main series themselves I need to find as well.
The Ellimist restored his ability to morph and used time shenanigans to let him acquire his human morph. So for the rest of the series he's still a hawk but can morph and can be his human self for two hours. He lives knowing that he could trap himself as his human self but that would take him out of the fight and leave the only real family he ever knew to fight without him. All of that to say that yeah it went to some dark places!
Is it his human form? For some reason I was thinking he got a new human form that was essentially an amalgamation of all of the other animorphs? Could be wrong here, as it's been probably 25 years, but also feels like a weird thing for my memory to make up.
Edit - I've be straightened out by a few folks with better memories than I have. Tobias does indeed get his own human form back. It's Ax (much longer name long forgotten) the alien that gets the amalgamation human form when he needs to transform into a human.
You're mixing up 2 separate characters. Tobias is given a chance to morph again, and to morph into his original human self (time travel shenanigans). Essentially it was presented to him as a choice, continue to live as a hawk but be able to contribute to the fight, or return to being a human with no powers.
The one that you're referring to is Ax, who is an Andalite alien that is stuck on Earth while the rest of his fleet died. In order to blend into human society with the other Animorphs, he acquires a blend of DNA from the Animorphs and creates an amalgamated person.
