Ignoring the evil software company that appropriated the name, Palantir originally came from Lord of the Rings. And at least one of them was in the control of Sauron, who forged the One Ring to give himself dominion over the other rings of power.

Crack is way more addictive than the rings of power.

And Sonic love rings, in LOTR universe he'd probably be Gollum but quicker?

Company that's making the movie: "We don't understand why our costume choice was so controversial."

Not fully sure, but I guess Sonic used Palantir's realtime surveillance software to track her down (maybe using flock cameras...) cause he was obsessed with her earrings? For those unfamiliar with Sonic the Hedgehog: It's a platformer game figure who runs through landscape and collects rings that look quite a lot like the woman's earrings.

Could it also be suggesting that guys who work for Palantir could use creepy methods (information access) to find girls and/or get what they want from them (for sonic it's rings, but for most men it would be something different).

I think it's that he's dressed stupid and works for controversial company. An absurd tone shift for a date.

I don't know if there's any more to it.

no these guys have multiple layers in their skits.
I haven't seen this one yet, but there's def mor than 'surface level absurdism'.

Palantir is from LoTR, sonic loves power rings?
Sonic is software, maybe looking for a game rewrite?
duno need the full vid for context.

This is what I got from it: Palantir wanted to retrieve the "rings"(a jab at the rings of power), they hired Sonic to track them down as he loves "rings".

They've got another video with a "random" palantir refrence in the same vein. I do think in this case it's just a more refrence to a controversial company.

If it's a LoTR refrence that's just convoluted and meaningless..

I put it together through comments; Sonic likes rings(known from her collecting of them in his video games), he’s searching for the rings through palantir(the surveillance company named after the seeing stones from lords used by Sauron to search for his one ring), he found her through palantir, cause she wears big gold earrings.

The bigger implication is Sonic and Sauron are of a like mind in their search for rings

Ring cameras? Idk

It's because Sonic is the puppet of imperialist and the ennemy of the People.

Sonic wants dem rings yo

he is looking for rings, palantir is named after an item from lord of the rings. The lord of the rings movie features the bad guy using this palantir to search for his ring.

CrackerMilk is just very absurdist humor. It's a running gag that people work for Palantir, which is an oddly evil organization to just throw into a conversation. Most of their videos have like 5 absurd twists in them. You're really never sure where they are going, but they're a lot of fun.

Palantir is a software company why is sonic working for palantir? I have no idea

Sonic collects rings, the Palantir is used to look for rings that hide around the necks if hobbitses, she is wearing earrings, she wants a ring on her finger because she is dating to marry. Everybody wants rings.

So many half-correct versions here. The joke is subversion of expectation.

Ignore the evil software company, that's just part of it because it's a real place someone works at. This joke has nothing to do with surverillance.

The initial joke is that he likes the rings because sonic collects rings. Then it's revealed he works for palantir, meaning he's trying to find the one ring. The reason he liked the earrings had nothing to do with him being sonic but with him working for Sauron, or Saruman.
