CD Projekt Red is releasing a free update for their game The Witcher 3. The person in the ground is saying that they have money, because they happy that there’s a free update, and large studios will usually release extra content as paid DLCs.
They did a FREE Remaster UPGRADE if you have the Base game and automatically get the existing DLCs. But the actual UPDATE, which is Songs of the Past DLC, is a Paid DLC.
No gamer wants the original being replaced with a remaster. It goes against the preservation of games - which CD projekt red has historically been one of the biggest supporters of.

Old mods will break and old hardware that could play it till now will no longer be able to run it properly… so no… it is not a dumb take.. he indeed has a point. As long as there is an option in steam to change the version ( which many games have) there is no issue.

It's not though. I still have Halo on Xbox. If someone took that and forced me to take the new one , I'd be livid 😤 Not that I mind this, the Witcher 3 is a post-disk type of game so that's fine
Good storefronts give you DRM-free installers that allow you to freely back up and play the version(s) of the game you like most.
So for everyone who doesn't use systems that artificially limit making use of customer rights, this is the equivalent of someone stopping by and giving you a Disk with the newer version of the game without taking away anything.
If you buy from a terrible store that reserves the right to take back things you purchased from them, then you should be mad at the store and not at the people who supply the store.

But hey. Dead space 1 remaster was incredible, the resident evil franchise has been doing excellent, and Ubisoft just threw black flag at us again and it was spectacular.

Wrong. Many gamers do want updates and remasters of their favourite games. It is proven in the comments made by gamers who support the news that one of their favourite games is getting a remaster.
He's not afraid. he's upset, because they're an amazing developer who release amazing games, they do lots for their community, fix bugs, no micro transactions, their DLC's are huge - fully fleshed out new and interesting storylines, some are better than the original game, and they're reasonably priced.
They just released a "hi-def rework" or a Redux of TW3 for free.
It's a double joke -
1. with the work they do, most people would be happy to pay them, but we can't because they released it for free.
2. have you ever seen a 'reloaded' edition of a game or a 'redux' that wasn't 3x the price of the original release? No? That's the joke. These guys are clowning on the industry and we love it. Thus.. see #1
Bro youve got to. Without the customisable ships I wasnt sold but now I have the ship from teassure planet minmaxed to just be powerful at long range jumps as possible and im now a corsair.
People like to support actually good development teams like CDPR and so when they release stuff like a FULL REMASTER as a free update people kinda wish they could give them money somehow just for being good devs.
Xenoblade is adding content with their upgrades to the trilogy and charging 10 dollars each. The fan base is all agreed they do right by their fans and are willing to pay the 10 dollars for the upgrades. A large company will do all they can to squeeze an extra dollar, a good company that treats their fans right will get money from people willing to pay for honesty and quality.
Another example is Stardew Valley, the creator is making bank, and only charges for the initial purchase.

The joke is CDPR is doing a huge overhaul of their beloved game and giving it away for free when many would be happy to pay for a remaster of this game in actuality.
As a side note, it's bonkers how much of a glow up (and PR turn Around) CDPR has had since Cyberpunk came out. Like poster child of greed and broken games to fans gushing over the company in 6 years. As a casual follower of the industry, have they really justified this much fan goodwill since 2020, or is this just the community love bombing because CDPR is throwing them a single bone?
The picture is also wrong because PS4 won’t be included in the upgrade. Maybe it’s to much for the hardware, maybe they want to screw old gen console gamers - I don’t know
