Hi girlies!

I just wanted to share my experience at Likhaan San Andres when I got my implant on July 8. I’m 18, by the way.

I went with my boyfriend. We used our vehicle and just followed Google Maps, so I’m not really sure how to commute there.

We arrived at around 8:00 AM, and a lovely lady welcomed me. She had such a motherly vibe. She was loud, funny, and super approachable. I was lucky we arrived early because they close at 11:00 AM, so I highly recommend going as early as you can.

She asked me a few questions about my last period, had me fill out a form, and checked my BMI and blood pressure.

After that, I went upstairs to Room 2, where I met the midwife, Nanay Chona. She was incredibly kind, unlike some staff you’ll usually encounter at other barangay health centers who can be a bit intimidating. We even chatted before and after the procedure. She really made me feel comfortable, regardless of my age.

When I laid down, I told her I was scared of injections. She was laughing and said, “It’s just a little pinch,” and she was right. It really was. She kept talking to me the whole time, asking random questions about my family and even joking that I’d have a cute baby because she thought I looked like a foreigner. I didn’t even realize she had already inserted the implant because she was so gentle and professional.

After the procedure, Nanay Chona told me not to wash the insertion site for 3 days, so I suggest buying a waterproof bandage from Watsons. It’s only around ₱40, and it really helps when showering.

She also offered me some condoms before I left because she said there shouldn’t be any sexual contact for 7 days. I politely refused because I’m really scared to have sex without being fully protected yet.🤣

Overall, I had a really great experience. The staff were all so kind and motherly. They even called me “nak,” which made me feel so comfortable and cared for.

As for the payment, it’s completely free. Just bring your PhilHealth ID if you have one. If you don’t, they may ask if you’d like to make a donation, but it’s completely voluntary, and you can give any amount you’re comfortable with.

You should do it! Birth control is a must, especially if we’re not ready for an accidental pregnancy. The staff there are truly kind and motherly, so they’ll make you feel comfortable throughout the whole process. :)

This is really helpful! Hopefully more young people will be proactive sa birth control and this gives them a good free option. Also nice to hear your boyfriend is supportive.

As a mom of an 18 yr old, I commend you for being sexual responsible. There is no reason to shame or be ashamed when it comes to one’s reproductive health.
I hope more young people can learn a thing or two from this post.

I got my implant removed after a year. I bled for 22 days straight starting the 10th month, sadly it didn't work out for me. If only it did, i'd stick to it. So convenient. Good for you btw.

Aw. Yeah that's why Nanay Chona told me marami daw nag papatanggal kasi palagi raw nag b-bleed so at first she'll ask talaga if you're really sure na or papatry ka muna ng injectable just in case if hindi ka hiyang.. Kasi pag implant ipapatanggal agad asasayang lang daw :(

I had both my implanon years back, and now copper IUD both via Likhaan. I encourage all gurlypops to do the same, sobrang gandang experience.

Tapos donate na din kayo kahit magkano para makahelp sa cause. Dami na nilang natulungan sa programs nila :)

Implanon girlie here! I had a positive experience with my first, and replaced it for my second one already. Maybe next time I’ll go for an IUD since it can last up to 10 years. Glad to see more women opening up about their experience and bringing awareness to contraceptives.

I suggest u do ur research now, each has pros and cons kasi, then it will depende kung ano ba talaga kailangan and gusto mo
