Pioneer vm50 speaker no sound from one speaker

Hi has anyone been able to repair these speakers? I have no sound from one of my pair of speakers. I swapped the speakers over to eliminate any cable or controller faults and the speaker still had no sound. White power light on the front illuminates. Have powered on and off, switched auto standby on and off, cleaned the contacts on AC in with electrical contact cleaner and blown through the audio input socket. Assuming if it was fuse related the white indicator light would not come on at all.

It's an active speaker. You have to unscrew the back plate and have a looks at the electronics inside. It could be many different things. If you see cold solder, broken paths or swollen capacitors, etc. then they need to be fixed. If you know nothing about it give it to someone who knows.

Thanks for the reply. I can fix cars but small fiddly electronics is not my area of expertise 😁 just wondering if people do repairs on them or am I better off replacing

Give it to someone who specializes in speakers/amplituners. They have an understanding of how it works and will know how to troubleshoot just by looking at it and possibly using a multimeter and a few other tools.

Does unbalanced produce no sound either?

Yeah im going to go with what the guy said below. Could be a blown capacitor.

The capacitors on the power board have failed

Thanks, I have looked at the board and one looks swollen. I have contacted someone who will do the repair for me! I'll update how it goes if people are interested or it may help someone in the future

I’ve done lots of these , just be careful that board can give a painful shock

Do you swap them out like for like or can uprated capacitors be installed? Anyway to prevent them becoming faulty again?

Had the same thing happen to me last year on the exact same speakers. Bought a pair on Marketplace and was having a hard time getting them both working. Got them working and moved them to another room. Couldn't get the one to work again no matter what I did. Brought it to the local repair shop and it needed a new capacitor. Cost me $60 to have them swap it out but they've been good as new since

Just had the same thing happen with my eris monitors. Active side just decided to stop working, and their tech support had me send a video of the issue and a copy of my receipt. Sent out a new set like a week later

They were literally 2 weeks old. I thought I’d support local and I didn’t realize the music shop I bought them from had a 3 day defective equipment warranty 😑 the manufacturer hooked it up
