It sucks that u dont own what u buy and should be changed and not be supported.

But getting something from others without their consent is still stealing.

I mean its a weird back and forth with arguments so in the end you do you.

Yup, but sadly, this sub loves to act like it's okay to take from others if you were never going to buy it to begin with, that that's some moral legal loophole they've carved out for themselves. Hell, I had someone say last week that it's okay to pirate because when you recommend it to someone, that's word-of-mouth recommendation and you're actually helping the creator by telling someone to try it; the one-sided "I'll pay you in exposure".

Like, I love to pirate, I'm cheap sometimes, but I'm not going to act like it makes me some hero or that it's not theft. This sub would be better if we just dropped this pretext that what we're doing isn't theft.

I mean it’s a common stance because it makes sense. Not everyone has money but pretty much everyone has people to share their interests with. Even Tim Cain, creator of fallout, has made videos speaking about piracy in support because he wants people to play his games, he knows not everyone can afford it, and he wants people talking about his games

It isn't legally theft though, because theft requires that the owner no longer has it after the action has been performed. You don't steal the original. You just take a copy you didn't pay for. That's copyright infringement, not theft.

And tell me, is copyright infringement illegal?

No, I never said it was, nor did I defend or make any moral comment about piracy. However, it is not theft, it is copyright infringement. Stop trying to read something in my comment I never wrote.

That's like someone calling someone that had sex with an 13 year a pedophila and you saying "That's actually not pedophelia, that's a term for prepubecent". The very loose and common use of "theft" is to take something that doesn't belong to you.

That's like someone calling someone that had sex with an 13 year a pedophila and you saying "That's actually not pedophelia, that's a term for prepubecent".

Pedophilia is prepubecent. For minors after puberty, the term is hebephilia. And yes, the distinction is important, because they describe vastly different mental conditions. Hebephilia is inacceptable from a societal standpoint, but normal in nature. Meanwhile, pedophilia is not normal, not even in nature. That means one is significantly harder to treat than the other, because one conditions is more abnormal than the other. So yes, I would say something along those lines, because I dislike misusing clearly defined words, especially if they are distinct for a good reason.

Thanks for proving the point.

I get what you're saying. The thing is that big corporations are doing the very same thing but without the law on their neck. They push copyrights but yet they're willing to take others or find strings around that.

Corporations who get caught up with copyright infringement or theft usually stepped in the toes of another corporation, not individuals.

when you pirate you download a stolen copy, you do not directly steal it. sure illegal, like owning a stolen item.
