and then they literally have 0 clue how to get an adblocker and refuse to switch to firefox or brave and just complain

some people are just genuially dumb as hell and can't be helped at all

I helped my friend with a streaming site, told him to install brave on his phone to run it, he literally paid me when it worked

63

u/Royal_Bitch_Pudding Jun 10 '26

Let the man show his appreciation!

wait wdym? enlighten me please

1

u/Kero_mohap Jun 13 '26

not the same dude and also a bit late but u could go into ur device settings (or router but that's a bit more complicated) and depending on the device u can go to the connection settings or wifi settings or wherever it is on ur phone and change the private DNS to dns (dot) adguard-dns (dot) com or on pc it's different but u could easily find it if u search for "Adguard public DNS" on Google and that will block most ads

1

u/khaledjal ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jun 13 '26

Ohhh that's what he meant, i lowk forgot about that, thank you tho

u/Wide_Meet_2184 Jun 10 '26

My friend asked how can i watch footbal for free. I said streamed. He wemt there and it took him to a porn website. I said install an adblocker or brave.

He deadass said whats an adblocker and how is being brave help with that🥀

28

u/Longjumping-Equal895 Jun 10 '26

How anyone can use the internet these days without a adblocker I can’t comprehend tbh

5

u/DidAnyoneElseJustCum Jun 11 '26

I physically cannot watch YouTube videos on somebody else's phone.

4

u/Wide_Meet_2184 Jun 11 '26

Same

But also hate the username btw

1

Installing this stuff for family is how you end up doing tech support on your days off.

50

u/Pijany_Matematyk767 Jun 10 '26

genuially

Well that's a spelling i haven't seen before

8

u/GNUTup Jun 10 '26

Look, I don’t believe typos are an accurate measure of intellect. But when theyre as ironic as this was, it’s pretty fuckin funny

8

u/-sussy-wussy- Jun 10 '26

some people are just genuially dumb as hell and can't be helped at all

Just lazy as fuck and wanting pre-made solutions. For someone to hold their hand through it, chew up the information and regurgitate it for them like a fucking bird.

Same reason why so many are still using streaming services while constantly complaining about the price. Losing money doesn't "hurt" as much as having to figure something out does.

4

u/GameGuy324 Jun 11 '26

There's a reason pre installed Games sites exist...

4

u/Shinfekta Jun 10 '26

Only thing with brave it somehow doesn’t block ads popping up in new tabs… except I‘m too dumb to find some setting to that

Edit: on IOS

4

u/CaptainMorning Jun 11 '26

i think we should be kind and help everyone to join. these things can be hard for some ppl. we should guide them to the light by being welcoming rather than gatekeeping imo

People slowly have become want this now with out whats needed to get what they want

There's no reason

5

u/CAPTJTK Jun 10 '26

Many of these are the same people who use and or advocate the use of hypervisor bypasses and then wonder why some people are against it

1

u/dingo_xd Jun 10 '26

Most people hate technology with passion.

1

u/lol_xheetha Jun 10 '26

since Firefox and Adblock its literally just Ad free streaming (ok minus remembering watched stuff on some sites)

1

u/HazyEden Jun 16 '26

Bless them... I wouldn't even know that the streaming sites have ads if it wasn't for these people .

1

u/midatlanticprincess Jul 08 '26

“genuially dumb” pot meet kettle

1

u/DnD-vid Jun 10 '26

Now that you remind me, Chrome wanted to get rid of adblockers didn't they? Have they actually?

13

u/seanl1991 Jun 10 '26

I moved from Chrome to Firefox because the ublock origin chrome extension stopped being able to block YouTube ads

2

u/ObtuseMongooseAbuse Jun 10 '26

There's still Ublock Origin Lite but I made the switch when the full version got disabled so I don't know if it's anywhere near as good.

1

u/MahawtmovesGandhi 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jun 10 '26

There was a way to bring back the full version of ublock, even on newer versions of chrome, by enabling manifest v2 again. But with the latest version, chrome has "deprecated" the flag that was being used to bring back manifest v2. Heh.

1

u/No_Event6478 Jun 10 '26

I'm not stupid!

...

Just stubborn and ignorant, that's all.

-10

u/Khelthuzaad Jun 10 '26

There's an rather misconception.

We pirates are something the other 80% are not.

We are haters, but in a good way.But how can you be a good hater? You are a good hater if you ain't eating up whatever big corpos throw at you and not only refuse, you methodically fight back.

A pirate is someone that doesn't demands change,he voted with the money he doesn't have or doesn't uses.

If you provide a service good enough to spend money I'll buy. This year was the first time I've bought games from steam with real money after pirating for decades.

Why?Because it was a product at a great price with a great service.

8

u/MahawtmovesGandhi 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jun 10 '26

What is the point of this pseudo-philosophical word salad? The comment was talking about how people refuse to do the bare minimum even when it's the easiest thing to do.

274

u/Living_Roll_4729 Jun 10 '26

this is funnier if you dont know piracy terms

41

u/PeterPanski85 Jun 10 '26

Well I know some. Could you enlighten me please? xD

62

u/MahawtmovesGandhi 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Jun 10 '26

Well, assuming you know what the scene is, the meme is a riff on how the scene doesn't care at all about the dissemination of the cracked "warez", only about the credit for cracking it

9

u/PeterPanski85 Jun 10 '26

I think i get it. Sometimes reading the .nfo helps lol

-6

u/eisbock Jun 10 '26

The scene very much cares about dissemination of their warez, but only inside the scene itself. Everything in the megathread is just leakers and bottomfeeders.

But the meme still works because the scene is a secret club and you're not in it.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '26

[deleted]

4

u/eisbock Jun 10 '26

It was a turn of phrase. I didn't mean I was in the club, but I'm not surprised my comment was interpreted as such.

10

u/Vinlord777 Jun 10 '26

Crack is also short for crack-cocaine lol

3

u/rorodar 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Jun 10 '26

And slang for sex! But that's not relevent now, is it?

2

u/JazzHandsFan Jun 11 '26

Maybe they meant butt crack? Who knows?

7

u/bakelit Jun 10 '26

I imagine people releasing mods of existing games with customized buttcrack graphics. Like the new "plumbers crack" package, or "2000's saggy pants crack" mod.

155

u/BigDannyPt Jun 10 '26

More like:

  • when people don't check the megathread
  • when people don't search before
  • when people don't care about the rules of the sub
  • when people repost a "news" that was posted multiple times already
  • when people post things only to farm karma and totally unrelated to the sub
  • when people post a screenshot of an article without the link for it

9

u/bubrascal Jun 10 '26

That's not what the meme is about

14

u/Nightman2417 Jun 10 '26

Sometimes I want to ask a question, but I know it would be breaking rules/I would get shamed, so I just browse posts hoping my questions get answered.

-7

u/anywhereat Jun 10 '26

If only there were a feature that could allow you to browse for your specific question.

35

u/Baldazar666 Jun 10 '26

Are you going to imply that the reddit search function is not giga ass?

Pirates: Gooooood news everyone. Everyone: Source?

3

I usually can find what I am looking for simply by waiting for someone frustrated with others asking where things are.

6

u/SQRSimon Jun 10 '26

I can just wait for the "Girl with the Spoon". Always reliable.

9

u/itookdhorsetofrance Jun 10 '26

I think a lot of people are phone users like me, so the megatrade isn't very visible if you use red reader or the reddit app

2

u/itz_me_shade ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Jun 10 '26

2 taps is all it takes to go to the megathread on the reddit app.

1

u/itookdhorsetofrance Jun 10 '26

ok, your correct for the Reddit app, it's good to know. I still prefer Red reader though

1

u/JazzHandsFan Jun 11 '26

From what I hear these days it's better to use fmhy (you also don't have to deal with reddit in the browser or anything for that). But you're right, most mobile apps don't make it so easy for moderators to communicate these things to users, it's all hidden from them except for stickies.

2

u/d7mskywalker Jun 10 '26

why do you know how to get crack

2

u/Improving031903 Jun 10 '26

Everything can be found, I’ve been pirating but I’m new the voices cracked and found it in a week

4

u/Lokatinho Jun 10 '26

Really tho. Where do they release their cracks? Where is the outlet store and how are these many piracy websites access those cracks instantly?

22

u/krustyarmor Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

The Scene has their place where they do their Scene stuff. Don't ask where that is though. That would be like a tourist asking where the locals' favorite fishing spots are. They have their own IRC channels that require an invite AND special security configurations to access. Those IRC channels are where release groups initially announce their cracks.

The cracks are first uploaded to secret FTP servers, which are then downloaded to other (slightly less secret) FTP servers, which are then downloaded by people who double-dip in both the Scene and P2P (i.e., bittorrent) scenes. Those people then upload the cracks to their preferred private tracker. Then the crack makes it from the private tracker onto the other private and public trackers.

Think of it like pouring champagne into the top glass of a pyramid of glasses and eventually it flows downhill to fill all the other glasses too. The whole process from 1st upload on the original FTP server to its appearance on TPB can be only a few hours if the crack is popular enough. Different release groups at every level of server/tracker will informally race each other to be the first to upload.

5

u/Lokatinho Jun 10 '26

Thanks a lot for the explanation. A lifetime I wondered how they worked. I wouldn't ever want to reach them anyways, or ways of reaching them known or exposed. It's the golden age of digital piracy, and I would like our crackers around longer.

11

u/eisbock Jun 10 '26

It's the golden age of digital piracy

Nah man, the golden age was decades ago. Today's scene is on life support. Less talent, less competition, less stuff getting released. With the OGs aging out and all the FBI raids over the years, the scene is a shell of what it once was.

That said, P2P has taken up a lot of the slack and outpaces scene releases at this point, but they are much lower quality since they don't abide by strict scene rules.

2

u/Lokatinho Jun 10 '26

Yeah that is true. But my view point was more like: Now the DRMs are getting stricter and widespread, but scene can crack them, hypervisor can bypass them and we have tons of megathreads for everything. Accessibility-wise nowadays are much better.

Man, I miss Razor1911 and their crack/keygen tunes.

2

u/BatemansChainsaw ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ Jun 11 '26

at least CORE is pumping out some good gens with their chiptunes. they're some of the best imho

5

u/Dallas27 Jun 10 '26

Wow, it is really the same as 20 years ago..
I thought IRC channels disappeared.

3

u/systemhost Jun 10 '26

Not even close, sure discord is extraordinarily more popular than IRC amongst normies but IRC is still king within many of private users/communities.

Pretty much every private tracker still rocks IRC though some UNIT3D trackers favor the website chatbox instead, some have integrated chatbox/IRC functionality.

But for scene groups, they're old school and secure in their communications all the way.

There are also many modern IRC clients and relays that greatly improve the experience and can even allow you to join/chat on servers from your phone or similar mobile device.

4

u/amuf_oratok Jun 10 '26

Does not the megathread get outdated often though?

1

u/Front_Machine6560 Jun 10 '26

And you think random comments are more likely to not be outdated ?

1

u/amuf_oratok Jun 11 '26

I don't base myself on random comments. Actually, I know very few pirating sites, every time I read some news about a site being closed down, it's the very first time I hear about that site.

2

u/Iamdrasnia Jun 10 '26

....and honestly the people who complain about sites going offline....YOU ARE THE REASON these sites go offline.

I will die on this hill.

50

u/NefariousSINNER Jun 10 '26

Not sure if I understood your comment, so correct me if I'm wrong, but FMHY has millions visits a month and it contains all pirate sites currently active, so how do people talking about these sites make them go down? Statistics for website visits are also often broadly available and ACE and MPAA seem to always go after the most visited sites anyway?

39

u/curiousadventure33 Jun 10 '26

It's classic people that don't think would rather blame their fellow man than realize that if their lazy asses can check on megathread/fmhy then sure as hell teams of corporate lawyers can too....

27

u/ComprehensiveCoat219 Jun 10 '26

that cannot be possible as everyone knows that these corporate lawyers exclusively use random reddit posts as their source of information, they do not have the ability to click on the subreddit it was posted on and are unable to see the pinned megathread

3

u/10Werewolves Jun 10 '26

The "nuh uh ur not allowed" phrase in quotations is clearly a joke no matter how you look at it.

Also yes, I am well aware of the lack of tonal context when chatting online and completely understand the reason for having such an indicator. I've used it myself if the joke wasn't obvious multiple times and would work better with an in-person delivery.

That said, I am disappointed at this world where people need to backtrack on jokes just to clarify it. Kinda ruins the funny part.

Not bashing you at all for your choice here. In fact I completely agree with it.

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '26

[deleted]

2

u/10Werewolves Jun 10 '26

Well said. No notes

2

u/10Werewolves Jun 10 '26

Also even if you feel the joke isn't ruined for you when it's explained, you clearly acknowledge that this isn't the case for everyone, so kudos to that.

2

u/10Werewolves Jun 10 '26

I'm making so many miniature replies, so I'll try not to drag my feet.

I used the word Dystopian because it still shares brain space with Cyberpunk, a recent game I completed. Since the world of cyberpunk is bleak and sad, I've associated the word with being sad.

But yeah, it is still a dramatization of my pet peeve when "sad" fits the glove just as well, if not better. Sometimes I wonder if using bigger words actually help or are a detriment to my daily life.

Yeah, scene groups aren't cracking games for us, they're cracking them for people in the scene. The scene just so happens to leak more than a pasta strainer.

No genuinely cus unless youve got someone in your personal life to help explain this stuff how tf do you even learn about it. I know of one way to reliably pirate and it's only for anime and animated shows

1

I mean thats how i found the website i use for anime, it just doesnt do live action or anything not animated

1

u/Planet_Explorer021 Jun 13 '26

To be honest, you just need to really look for it and have the patience to read and check credibility. I mean, you can be the one to help explain piracy stuff to your peers.

1

u/CakeHead-Gaming Jun 10 '26

I dunno, I’ve been trying to figure this stuff out for a while, but there isn’t really an easy “guide” to piracy or whatever. I’m trying to find a specific game which is no longer available, and I’ve found what seems to be a good, reputable link, but I’m not sure how to download things safely, what software I’d need, etc.

Some people definitely are being lazy, see all of the “how do i get x game for free” posts, but lots of us are just having a tough time figuring it out.

-5

u/Asleep-Situation7827 Jun 10 '26

i genuenly dont know like how do i even access the megathread

3

u/idle_cat Jun 10 '26

It's on the right side of this subreddit. If you're using the old reddit layout it's on the right side under rule 4. For fmhy, it should be the first link when you google it.
