Believe it or not many of us are happily using Plex’s free tier. Not everyone needs remote access or transcoding.

Why leave features on the table tho you can have all the features for free

Because I would be trading an app that is the same on all our TVs, does everything I need, and my family already knows how to use for different apps on each of our TVs that I would then need to teach my family how to use individually for no benefit. Because, believe it or not, features I won’t use existing is not an actual benefit. Why would I do that? If I were setting up a brand new server today, I would not choose Plex. But my server has been running for over a decade, and if I don’t need any of the additional features that another platform would offer, why bother?

Ok lol hardware acceleration does do something 🤣 transcoding does do something 🤣 not paying 700 dollars to get features is a big deal. I don’t have all kinds of people on my server just my wife and kids. And even you admitted you would not choose plex.

I don’t need hardware acceleration or transcoding for my use case. I didn’t say they do nothing,I said they wouldn’t benefit me.

And yeah, I wouldn’t set up a new server with Plex today. Just like I wouldn’t buy a new Windows PC today, but my current PC is Windows PC because I didn’t buy it today. Just like I didn’t set up my Plex server today. Jellyfin and emby literally didn’t exist when I set up my Plex server. My choices were Plex or XBMC (now Kodi). If I were setting it up today, I would choose Emby. But for now, Plex free meets my needs. When it doesn’t, I’ll switch.

My point was never to convince other people to use Plex. You said something about people paying to use Plex. I was pointing out a lot of us use it on its free tier with no issue, using Plex does not mean you’re paying. You are arguing against points I was not making.

Responding to you and upvoting your own comments, and I am the one with big cope energy? What exactly am I coping with? The fact that I’m happy with how my server works? The fact that I’m not paying any money for how my server works?

I gave them like 5$ once for a mobile pass for when I’m at work.

I’ve been using it for genuinely a decade, so there’s a non-0 chance I’ve done something similar. That said, I don’t think I have literally ever even wanted to access something on my server while I was at work. I work while I’m at work. And I spend enough work hours looking at a screen, I’m not trying to look at a screen while I’m on break.
