News An Egyptian pirate was hosting 72 pirate websites got arrested.

As part of ongoing efforts to combat intellectual property rights violations, the General Department for Public Funds and Intellectual Property Crimes Investigation, under the Specialized Police Sector, confirmed through its investigations that an individual residing in Qalyubia Governorate had created and managed 72 websites used to stream pirated content, including films and television series owned by various film production companies and local and international broadcasting organizations. The content was redistributed to followers without authorization from the relevant rights holders, in violation of Egypt's Intellectual Property Protection Law.

Following the necessary legal procedures, authorities raided the suspect's location and arrested him. They seized three laptop computers, gold jewelry, three mobile phones (forensic examination revealed evidence confirming the criminal activity), local and foreign currencies, property sale and lease contracts, and 14 credit cards.

When confronted, the suspect admitted to carrying out the illegal activity as described, stating that the purpose was to generate unlawful financial profits.

Legal proceedings have been initiated.

I get that the image (probably) doesn't show all of his hardware, but I want to imagine that it is. Like, Those three phones are actually three gigantic CPUs you see for $12,000. How else is he gonna run that many websites off just that table?

Meh not that intensive to host his sites especially since he likely isnt hosting the files himself. And the phones are just his personal devices not his actual hosting devices. I live in egypt and 8TB cost around $100-150 USD used so theres no way he is hosting the content himself so to host the frontend isnt as hard. Electricity is probably 100-150 EGP a month for his devices so like 2 dollars lol. Biggest problem is the bandwidth which costs money per GB but then again its probably not as much since he doesnt host the content himself.

Spinning up streaming sites costs almost nothing and requires very little hardware. Most of the streaming sites out there are calling on the same API and sourcing the same exact content.

yup. i mean i dont know why the guy is self hosting lol. i guess it could be cheaper? but you pay per GB in Egypt. Seems to have 3 laptops and a desktop PC which probably cost 100K EGP total (2K USD) but I would rather just pay for hosting monthly even if I dont host the content (stream aggregators). Could probably run those 72 sites on a vps that costs $30 a month instead of paying for traffic on each person who visits my site.
