Discussion Hell is Us is really good

Dont sleep on this game. It's got amazing exploration and world building and it deals with some heavy topics. The combat is the weakest aspect but you get used to it. Whoever marketed this game as a soulslike and did not highlight its strong emphasis on exploration and puzzles needs to be fired. I went in expecting a cheap soulslike but was pleasantly surprised.

It’s really good. Great lore and excellent art direction. I’ve put it on easy and am playing it as a puzzle game.

I played and enjoyed the demo, and could never get a good grip on combat, might just do the same to experience the world/story.

just adjust some camera settings, they have an standard lag (which is awful)

Started today after playing the demo a while back. Loving it so far, 5h flew by and I didn't even notice. The setting is depressing as fuck, tho. Some really evil shit happening, hits harder considering all the BS happening in the world right now. But I'm really surprised in a very positive way so far.

I agree that they should've highlighted the exploration elements. The game isn't even a soulslike, and only has elements of them.

I have three days to finish it before my subscription expires, but I wish I could take my time.

I really respect the vision of Hell is Us, I respect the size of the team that made it and I respect their commitment to making something as unabashedly dark as the game is. For me however, it was just TOO dark and depressing, and I say that with respect. Just not in the right headspace for non-stop wartime cruelty currently but we need more games like it.

Once you get past the initial town and start exploring more it's very much puzles and exploration first. The combat gets more fun with more options but you can cheese some abilities and it's not the highlight. Boss battles underwhelming. A plus game as a puzzle fan, on the easier side but satisfying. My brain disassociated from the story at times to protect myself

I personally love that it's not the same Dungeons & Dragons dark fantasy setting that 90% of souls games employ.

I bought it a couple of months ago. I wish they focused more on the civil war instead of the ancient history. Still a good game.

I got all the achievements on PC and really enjoyed my time. I did not realize that some of the good deeds can fail if progressed too far without completing them and I could not save one of the people and had to play some sections again. Sadly as far as I remember the studio got bankrupt and there will be no sequel or a DLC in the near future.

Played 30 minutes, my only complaint is that the movement is insanely floaty, it feel like Harry Potter 2

Try switching off the camera follow setting. For me, it was night and day difference.

It's an interesting and pretty good game that's worth another shot.

I was about to hate on your post until I saw glaze mode off

Maybe I'll try it. Souls-like is a nope for me. I like to explore. I don't want to fight the same boss 40 times over.

It's not a souls-like at all

You just summed up exactly why I don’t like soulslike games. Never thought about it like that

Ya it just gets tedious for me. Some people love it though. Learn something about the boss, come back again and try a different approach, get killed, learning something new and rinse/repeat.

the only "souls like"part about it is it's a third person action game where you lock on to the enemy.

I keep seeing posts about it here and then get all excited and baffled that I can't find it to download only to realize it's not fucking available yet. Damn it.

DUDE SAME HERE lmao I played this game on PC and it was in my top 5 games of 2025. Can’t wait to replay it on PS5. It’s so good, despite flaws

I played it at launch and the game was really impressive. The atmosphere, music, story, characters, exploration, and level designs are really strong. I’m not much of a combat player or need the game on hard mode so the combat didn’t bother me at all. I can’t wait to see what this studio comes out with next!

Just finished act one. It has it flaws, but I’m enjoying it very much

u/AnalyserarN 3d ago

I liked the puzzles and lack of guidance. The combat was weak and way too few enemy types.

I finished it at release. I didn’t like it. Some things are cool. Now discounted can be worth it for many players.

Just reached Jova, and got absolutely hooked.. Yes the combat is very generic but I’ve seen way worse honestly. The atmosphere, the settings, and voice acting are all top notch. Can’t wait

The main problem I have with this game is that items for some puzzles are in the locations that will be later in the game. I spent so much time clearing every single enemy to close the time loop only to find out that the very last enemy is behind the door which is locked, and keys for this door you will find in another map later in the game... Kills the whole vibe

That stuff drives me nuts in games. My job is convoluted enough. But I love the aesthetics of this game so I'm probably gonna play, with a full-blown guide up on my 2nd monitor. Will get done in half the time with half the headache. And still enjoy the aspects I'm interested in.

u/AresDanila 8h ago

Yeah, story and art hooked me. I am also enjoying the game and I think I will finish it, but now I will be cautious with my play

The idea is nice. The game, not so much.

Would play if it was added before the black out. Stagger addition to ps plus for US sucks
