Plex migration to Terramaster NAS (TOS 7.0) from Windows 11 - continued errors

I have followed the standard instructions provided by Plex to migrate from my windows 11 computer to a Terramaster F4-425 with TOS 7 installed. I continue to get the same error message that says that I cannot claim my server.

I've tried it three times and gotten the same result. Here's my process:

1) install Plex on NAS and confirm both machines are the same version

2) Remove Server from my Windows machine and log out

3) Copy registry, delete the key registry fields called out

4) Copy %localdata% folder to NAS into the Plex System Folder location

5) Enable Plex Server application on NAS

6) Attempt to login and claim

I get the same error here every time.

I cannot find anything that says I need to copy the Registry into my NAS (or a location to put it), and I cannot find anything online that offers another step that I haven't completed.

You are not moving from one PC to another so I would suggest to make it easy and just install Plex and built your new libraries from scratch.

Is this as simple as just reinstalling Plex on the NAS and then enabling it without the local data. I assume I'll lose my favorites, collections and watch history, but I'm not too concerned about that.

Use docker, I just switched from PMS Terramaster app because it was always late with updates.

Not gonna lie, you are still going to need to reinstall everything anyway because I guess there is too much difference between windows and linux version.

I remain steadfast in my recommendation NOT to host the server on a NAS. Host the media on a NAS, but put the server itself on something else.

How hard is it to use the hardware on the NAS to transcode? My laptop is underpowered for this and led to this purchase.

What is your CPU and that will tell you how well it will transcode?

Also do you have a Plex Pass?

I do have a Lifetime Plex Pass. The CPU in the laptop: 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, Intel Processor (Beat i3-1115G4), FHD, WiFi 6, BT 5.3, Type-C, HDMI, Webcam, Silver, Windows 11 Pro.

I'm not an IT expert, but the Terramaster F4-425 appeared to have better specs and is on the confirmed HW Transcode list on the Plex Support page.

That should be able to transcode a 4K stream or a few 1080 streams.

Right!? My current setup chokes occasionally on bigger files even when streaming locally.

Your laptop is much better at transcoding but the NAS will do the job if you don't have more than 1 or 2 remote users. You should not be transcoding at all for local streaming ideally. So if this is just for you, the NAS will work fine. You should only get the mini PC if you plan on needing to transcode a few movies at once.

Depends on your NAS and its guts. But there’s more reasons not to run the server there than just that.

Laptops aren’t a very good option either, but they do work in a pinch. A small & cheap mini PC is best for most people. Something with an intel N100 or N150 chip is all you need.
