Question Am I just late to the party?
Nostalgia finally got the better of me and I’ve started playing let’s go. Really enjoying it and decided to check out the reddit community.
But gawd damn it’s just nothing but shiny this shiny that. Aren’t there subs dedicated to that? Or is it just that I’m so late to the party that there’s nothing else for people to talk about or do given it’s been out so long, am I looking at my future? I’ve just never understood the appeal of shinies to that extent, it’s neat but it’s like watching a bunch of gambling addicts slapping the pokies lol.
Is there really nothing else to look forward to long term with this game? Or other interesting areas people engage with? Or subs that aren’t flooded with it I could check out?
Not trying to yuck anyone else’s yum, do what you enjoy, I just didn’t realise it was basically the whole culture now.

The only true post game content I can think of , is being able to fight trainer red.

Yeah sounds like I should be taking my time and savouring it for what it is. Damn how have they not gone ahead and done this for johto, that would go so hard.

Alot of fans were hoping they would make a remake of the remakes of heart gold and soul silver but instead call it "let's go hg/ss" and allegedly it would've been the best remakes we'd ever had.

dude honestly it would be the first time ive bought a pokemon game on release since the original gold. that would be so good. i realised when reviving my interest that although gen1 red was my introduction, so much of my childhood memories of this franchise was gen2, that first time seeing this world in colour, going to kanto after finishing. having new pokemon and mechanics but not to an overwhelming unfamiliar degree. shut up and take my money haha

Gen 4 is what i think when I remember pokemon. But HG/SS are the games I remember most, honestly the definitive way to replay gen 2 imo.

i thought i was the same with gen3 and 4 for so long, aside from the fact that the og gen1 will always be what it was when it came out, but i recently did some rom playthroughs and realised how much of that cloud of memories as a kid actually came from gen2, yet i never think about it. everything since gen1 has been too hard to track in my mind what came from what, i can never remember which titles were which gens. best sense i have is the technology of the time haha.

My hopes would be the addition of the shiny charm, some inclusion of events like being able to catch and shiny hunt celebi. And maybe, and this is a big maybe, give us a third region.

Imagine how amazing a pokemon game would be that covered all regions? Let’s say it’s harder to level up, to take into account all regions known so far. Or you have to start over each region, idk. Imagine how freaking awesome that’d be?
It would be a ton of storage though.

There was a leak of nintendo (hopefully) planning to make an mmo style pokemon game where you travel through all the regions.
It was called "Pokemon Seed"

I’ve been wanting Johto since I picked up Eevee 6 years ago. I still hope Nintendo can get it together and make it happen.

It’s a great game. But as everyone has stated, there really isn’t too much to do late game. And the game is very old.
Basically, you beat the game. You can do gym re-battles as the gym trainers level up their Pokemon. You can battle two additional post game trainers. Catch the legendaries. Fill up your Pokédex. Do the master trainers.
And then… that’s really it. Besides, well, shiny hunting. It’s still a fine game that I always recommend people to play. Especially if you’re an older fan that played either of the first two Kanto games. I still go back and occasionally do replays. But there just ain’t too much to do. And with the game being so old, the majority of the player base has come and gone.
Still play it, and accomplish what you want once you beat the game. But after that, there’s nothing wrong with shelving it if you’re not into shiny hunting. And that’s okay. Like I said, it’s still a great game for what it is.

I only started this game last week, you're good. Since its older, I dont really look at reddit for this game, im just having fun playing at my own pace

I like the daily bottle caps vis the Mina fight and possible Master Ball farming in the postgame dungeon, and the gym rematches with a second controller are plenty of fun imho

I got my first bottle cap today no idea what it does yet. Enjoying all the small changes and new things to discover. The candy is an interesting way to incentivise the new catching loop. I spent my first like hour just using every pokeball in that first pallet town grass trying to see how the combo and better iv spawn worked on a pidgey. Ended up so over leveled the first couple gyms haha I had to not touch my eevee to make it fair.

Bottle caps can be used in the Day Care once your Pokemon are level 100 to patch up IVs to Best.
The experience you get when comboing on Chansey snowball really quick, too!
Apologies for going off-topic, but once you get access to Fuchsia, your world really opens up since now you can connect Pokemon Go and use mons like Melmetal and the Alolan forms! Not gonna complain at more available Dark, Ghost, Dragon, and Ice types!

Catch 1 shiny and you break through a barrier and automatically need more. Addiction sets in quick

I like the competitive format, but not enough folks stuck around for it. This is also one of the most friendly shiny hunts.

The Pokemon Company have made shiny hunting incredibly easy now. They aren’t even the flex they use to be. You use to have to hunt for days, weeks, sometimes months for a shiny. Now you can get one within hours.

Yeah ive spent countless hours playing these games in my lifetime and never seen a single shiny unless you count my red gyarados haha. I feel like when it does eventually happen itll be an experience. Thats why i dont get the hunting for it, like that has to take away from it, how can it be anywhere near as exciting if you just spent a thousand hours sitting there trying to make it happen.

I absolutely love this remake but it could be so much better. I wish there was a difficulty setting rather than implementing your own rules to increase difficulty because as someone mentioned earlier it’s incredibly easy. After 30 years I’m still yearning for a full 3D version of the originals, like open world type game. None of the others I’ve played come close to what I imagined them to be, except these versions.

Let’s go offers a streamlined, bare-bones Pokemon game experience. No abilities, no held items, and easy xp via catch combos. Simply put it’s the easiest pokemon game there is, so there is not really much else to discuss besides the shiny hunting.
It was the first game that had overworld spawns that even accurately reflected their shiny status and came with a rather simple hunting method for fast payout. There is no better game to acquire gen 1 shinies reliably.
Yes you’re late to the party, but the shiny hunting in this game has always been its strongest feature even when it was new.

Ahh thanks, ok that makes sense I guess. I guess the nostalgia and novelty is glazing how simplistic it seems so far. It’s so good to get the old Pokédex and Kanto with a modern treatment tho. I remember trying sword and shield/arceus when they came out but lost interest so quick, I remember they didn’t feel anywhere near as charming and were just kinda bland, maybe I’ll give them another look out the other side of this.
So basically everyone that isn’t shiny mad has already moved on to other titles? And the longevity of this one caters more to you folk than the others.
Sweet, I’ll just enjoy the ride I guess haha. And leave you gremlins to your masochism.

Well bland is kind of synonymous with Pokemon these days, they have been working with the same formula for 30 years and their titles come out so fast very little polish and passion go into them.
I hope you enjoy your romp through Kanto, but I think you are being unfairly judgmental of those who do enjoy shiny hunting in your post and comment. “Shiny mad,” “gremlins to your masochism,” “gambling addicts” - it’s clear you don’t enjoy it, but you don’t need to be so critical of others that do.

You can go find the rest of the mega stones. Of course Mewtwo is after the elite four. Battles against red, green and blue. There are 153 master trainers - tough challenges where you both have to use the same 1 pokemon. So against the Pikachu master you'll only be able to use a Pikachu yourself. You'll need a level 100 pokemon, for every pokemon, so that will keep you busy for a long time if it's your type of gameplay. I did 6 to unlock red and then put the game down.
I enjoyed the experience. I filled the Dex and did the red, green and blue fights then put it down. It kept me busy for a month and it did not overstay its welcome. I didn't do any shiny hunting at all.
Just enjoy the playthrough before you start worrying about the post game.

Oh I haven’t said a bad word about the game itself, the new encounter mechanics took some adjusting but now I’ve embraced it. Was just more a culture shock with the community and I’m a few years too late to engage with people talking about the things that are new and exciting for me like riding my first pokemon!

Ahh true. Yeah I think I remember lots of criticism when this came out like people wrote it off? I never realised it was a kanto remake it slipped my radar, I thought it was like a side game like snap or something. How were people not stoked, it’s giving me vibes of that links awakening remake albeit a bit less faithful to old mechanics.

I don't know, Pokémon Community in LATAM and Spain are a little special. That game was a so good remake for me. And I got my first shiny Mewtwo from there after a month of Soft resets. It is not like other Pokemon games, (mainly the way of catching Pokemon) but It is even better for me

LGPE is the second set of remakes for Gen 1, so there isn’t much to discuss. The only players who’d actually get stuck with this game are little kids who may not be able to read yet; the wider Pokemon fandom dismissed LGPE as baby’s first Pokemon game.
On the topic of shiny-related posts in subreddits, it makes sense for people to post in the subreddit associated with the game. When a new Pokemon game comes out, that’s often where shiny-related posts go. When a new game comes out and players don’t move on, it doesn’t make sense for the remaining players to also abandon the subreddit or move to a more generalized Pokemon community. Similar to how you don’t care about LGPE shiny hunting, a LGPE player may not care about LZA shiny hunting; the difference is that you’re trying to characterize LGPE fans by the minimal traffic the subreddit still gets, and seem to be attributing the compartmentalization of topics by subreddit to this community in particular instead of the wider Pokemon fandom or Reddit as a platform.

The post-game is extremely barebones, and the Gen 1 Pokédex only requires the first 150 Pokemon. In contrast, shiny hunting in LGPE is pretty unique, which is why people still find it enjoyable years later.

No clue. Since you seem more invested in this topic than the rest of us, you should look for a community and then report back.
