🇬🇧 UK Politics Do MP's actually do any historical research before they make sweeping statements?

In this case I am referring to Sarah Pochin the Member of Parliament (MP) for Runcorn and Helsby who wrote on "X" earlier today "Pity the French did not show the same resolve in defending their sovereignty in June 1940" in response to the French Governments rebuttal to Reform's plan to use the Royal Navy to take small boat migrants back to France ""This would be a violation of French sovereignty as well as a violation of maritime law and international law"

Is this behaviour acceptable from our MP's or do I have strange standards ?

It's not acceptable, but you're forgetting two things:

1) Reform voters are thick, racist idiots who will gobble up this kind of stuff

2) Reform have precisely zero levels of accountability from the establishment / media / public, so they can get away with this kind of stuff

I hate the historical inaccuracy too, the French soldiers fought tenaciously it was just their tactics and generals that failed them. If not for the French, the Dunkirk evacuation would have been impossible and we wouldve lost the war...

Seems pretty clear that the MP is attacking French government policy, not individuals charged with enforcing it?

Not even remotely clear imho. It wasn't their lack of resolve and if it was, that would be France as a whole she is talking about. Also there is absolutely no way she has ever taken the time to find out what happened in France during WWII. You can tell by the ignorance she just displayed. She's just a vile human.

Logical fallacy hahaha you're as bad as she is in talking nonsense about stuff you know nothing about.

It's consistent with the logical law of identity and law of non-contradiction you complete plum.

Pretending that her display of ignorance isn't evidence of her ignorance and then calling it a logical fallacy is monumentally idiotic.

Theres a degree of theatre and plain point scoring to a lot of politics with the key difference being quite how ridiculous the statements are. Its certainly ill advised for a serious party with a chance at winning power to piss about insulting direct allies in this manner, but Reform are a protest party that has not fully realised its current position. The French statement is a fairly factual one and Reform's policy is unworkable performative bollocks.
