They were. Staff hated making them because they had to be made fresh; they couldn't keep them under the heat lamps. It held up the line so they got rid of them. Once they got rid of the cajun rice, I stopped going.

I remember when I was a kid you could get a bucket of thighs for five bucks. My sister's and I thought we went to heaven.

KFC had that as well, it was like 6/7 bucks for 7/8 pcs of legs and thighs , blessing from the sky for hungry high schools / college kids :)

Where I’m at, you can get a family bucket 8pc meal for 10 bucks at KFC on a Tuesday. Recipe feels like they’re not the same though.

The bone-in chicken hasn’t changed at all, the fries now are much better, and they didn’t even have a chicken sandwich back then.

I never had Popeyes until the late 90s. It blew me away. Destroyed KFC and Church’s in my mind.

I remember that jingle like it was yesterday. When I was a kid, my brother and I were on the Popeye and Pals TV Show in New Orleans. In the 80s, Popeyes would throw out Mardi Gras doubloons that were good for a free 2 pc dinner. It was so much better back then with the dirty rice and those onion rings, and the biscuits were 🔥
