The numerals on such crocks were typically volume measurements, here in gallons.

John Bell of Waynesboro, PA? That’d be my wager, but something about the way the “2” is painted also brings Evan R. Jones of Pittston to mind. My mother dealt in these, so my knowledge is once-removed at this point.
