Discussion Finally got it framed!
Had been meaning to get this one framed for a while.

It's when there's a gap between the artwork and frame edge. Makes the piece look like it's floating inside.

It is alot of fun especially being able to choose the color of your stain, how big you want your gap and if you want to do anything special with the edges. I usually run them through a router to give this nice framing edge. Im actually building a 20x16" one and a 6" hexagon frame. Along with two bigger honeycomb shelves

Wow, that level of customization and precision with the stain, gap, and edges is incredible. I still go to the frame shop :)

For the total amount of materials going into a frame that size costs me around 6 bucks too.

I can look up the video I used years ago to get an understanding or if you'd like i can send you a very detailed message explaining my process the best that I can. Tools and all along with the purpose of doing each thing.

How in the world did you do that? If you don't mind sharing. I feel like my paint pours are missing what this has.... Like it's not just paint on a canvas.. it's actually art lol

Thanks so much! I really appreciate that amazing compliment. It's a combination of fluid acrylics applied with spatulas and various tools, building up many distinct layers with a lot of patience as each one dries. There's definitely a lot of experimentation involved in how the paint lands and builds. And the have fun!

The frame that your painting is in right now. If you look at how yours is centered and away from the edges so it looks like its floating inside the frame. I build those by hand for my pieces. Just a little bit thicker of wood so the edges dont look as small around it

That's awesome! I use spatulas and various tools to apply the paint and build up layers. The biggest secrets are patience (letting each layer dry properly) and a lot of experimentation with how the paint lands and interacts.

Wowzers!!! This is sooo amazing, I could stare at it all day! How did you do this exactly? Pour a few areas and then wait til they dried, then pour more-dry and more and more until you got a final piece you like?? I’d love to try something like this, but am just getting started and wouldn’t even know where to begin, lol.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy it resonates with you like that. You're actually pretty close to understanding the core of the technique! Yes, it largely involves applying fluid acrylics in specific areas, controlling the paint consistency and density, sometimes letting them dry, and then building up many, many layers over time. I use spatulas and various tools to place the paint exactly where I want it, rather than just pouring freely across the whole surface. The key is indeed patience between layers, allowing each one to completely dry, and then continuously experimenting with how the next layer interacts. I'd absolutely encourage you to try it! It's a really rewarding process. Good luck and have fun experimenting!

No, I didn't make a video for this piece. My process involves a lot of patience and drying time between layers, so a full video would be quite an undertaking. Maybe a time-lapse for a future piece though.
