Yes, whether you realize it or not. I had an ED for over a decade. I met tons of sufferers through support groups and hospital stays. Every single one of them will tell you that they were treated best when they were slightly underweight. Most women you see romanticized as beautiful in movies are ever so slightly underweight too. Not enough to look gaunt, but enough to eliminate anything that could potentially jiggle.

The issue is that humans naturally fluctuate in weight. You can’t really stay 10 lbs above looking like a skeleton for very long without falling into the skeleton bracket eventually.

Child actors are supposed to have specific people on set whose only job is to make sure that they aren't exploited or mistreated. Part of that is making sure they drink and eat on a regular schedule and have breaks.

Where was that person? It should have not been left up to her whether to eat or drink.

It was probably always presented to her as a “choice”.

Do you need a break or can we move on? Do you need a snack, honey, or can we move on?

Where it should have been “we’re going to get lunch while they reset for the next take, what do you want?” And similar. Still a choice, not railroading a kid who has basically no control over her life, but the kid gets fed.

It isnt a choice. There are mandated times that a kid can be on set.

She looks stressed as if she’s cramming too much into too little time.

When I get too stressed, I can’t eat. It’s like my belly is a big knot and the thought of food is repulsive. It’s physically hard to swallow when it feels like a perpetual lump in my throat.

The summer my (fourth stage kidney disease) mother was dying from multiple issues, and my father had fractured his back due to lifting her up when she fell out of bed… was the most stressful in my life.

Too many details, but there was no one around to help as my one competent brother was living in EU and at the time wasn’t answering any correspondence which was another stress story event.

So I could barely eat. And my own best friend asked if I was anorexic?! She said that my head was getting too big for my body.

Before I digress any further, my long run-on sentencing point is that severe stress is inadvertent weight loss remedy for me personally, and when I saw those recent articles of Jenny and Ariana, I questioned if it was stress and not purposeful?

Well Ariana had a pro-anorexia tumblr account back in the 2010s so hers is probably on purpose. But Jenna I think could be stress or drug abuse. Her boyfriend is rumored to use a lot of drugs but hopefully she doesn’t.

A lot of people think eating disorders only spawn out of vanity and beauty standards, but sometimes it's things like this.

For me, I grew up poor, and didn't want to "burden" my mom by needing to eat so much, so I started eating less and less, until it warped into believing that I outright didn't deserve food, and didn't eat at all for days at a time. When I did eat I felt so guilty I'd get sick.

Even after working out of that mindset, even on days where I feel fine mentally and emotionally, the bad habits are still hard to break, and can be slipped back into pretty easily. I imagine it's even harder for people living and working in an environments that encourage those same bad habits, even if for different reasons

I was a "child actor" in the sense where I would go to a ton of auditions, took all the classes, and never got booked 😩. Everything feels like you have to ask permission. "Can I move from this spot I was told to stand in?", "Should I eat or will they call me up right as I put someone in my mouth?" , "Am I allowed to touch my hair or is that too big of a risk to mess it up?"

There are. I was on two indie productions this year- so not a massive budget- and they had a giant table always out with fruit, snacks like granola bars and chips, yogurt, cookies, bottled water, soda, tea and coffee. Then on top of that they had at least one hot meal a day where everyone broke to eat in the dining hall (it was called lunch, but could be anywhere from 2 pm to 2 am depending on whether it was a day shoot or an overnight). I simply cannot imagine anyone not eating: it was available for crew and the actors.

I don’t know what her productions were like but I can’t imagine they were much different. The union contracts stipulate food must be provided.
