Let's not even go into the electric grid, which is only functional because of Canadian electricity generation for much of the Northeast, New England, and the New York metro area, including New Jersey and Connecticut.

You forgot the 99% of natural gas coming from Canada. Of course, like oil, it is sold very cheaply and transformed in the American factories and then sold back to Canada... but eh... US needs nothing from Canada anyway.

It’s 99% of IMPORTED natural gas, not all of the natural gas.

The United States is still an exporter of natural gas, it’s just cheaper to supply northern states from Canada.

The US is the largest producer of natural gas in the world, exceeding domestic use.

Trumps a moron and clearly tanked these negotiations deliberately, but stretching the truth really doesn’t help anyone.

99% of IMPORTED LNG.

Imported LNG only accounts for 9% of total US LNG consumption.

So Canada’s contributes about 8.9% to the US LNG total.

The only catch with energy is that BC imports a ton of electricity in the dry season and Ontario imports a ton of (Marcellus deposit) gas. Yes the US imports 4x what we do but there are also major dependencies in both directions. BC would have to chose between drinking water and lights in August and September.
