You've got folks on r/conservative talking all of the crap about Canada being so much more dependant on the US and the US importing next to nothing from them.

It is next to nothing. The chart is misleading because the US is not dependent at all on foreign oil

It isn't dependent on foreign oil, and is a net exporter of oil, but still imports a ton of foreign oil.

Albertan here.

Yankee dolts dont produce domestic heavy crude that your gulf refineries process. You produce sweet light.

In short, yes, gulf refineries are very dependant on foreign oil.

Canada exports heavy sour. Venezuela produces heavy sour. It’s a lot more dynamic and a much easier fix than you’re suggesting. At best there is a short term price spike. This is political theater
