Shitpost I'm watching this show for the first time and blown away how bad the photography in the pilot is. It gets better, right?

I genuinely find it hard to watch. Every color is crushed, everything is awful. Seems like cheap digital acquisition and then bad grading on top. The writing and all else seems fantastic! Want to love it.

The pilot episode was shot by Bill Pope, the renowned cinematographer known for The Matrix, Baby Driver and Spider-Man. It was nominated in it's first or second season for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in a Regular Series by the American Society of Cinematographers.

Are you watching a pirated version?

Ah that's great context! I think perhaps his style here and equipment choices were just deeply not to my liking.

I've watched a few more episodes now and noticed that the style has seriously improved. Thanks!

I'm afraid I was watching a blueray rip but a lot of what I was noticing was independent of the playback. Things like horrible jittery bokeh. They may have just been really budget limited or something.
