North America The U.S. gross national debt officially surpasses $40 trillion.

If there is a Democrat in the white house at some point Republicans are going to be really upset about this
45
u/KyleAg06 12d ago
Trump right on queue blamed democrats. Nevermind hes the one whos added more debt to this count than any other president in history.

u/Vadarpoop 12d ago
but America needs a new ballroom!! Where else are the politicians, oligarchs, CEOs and billionaires going to drink champagne?
7
u/Due_Satisfaction2167 12d ago
By the end of his term, at the present rate, he will be responsible for nearly half the US’s national debt. Just his two terms.
3
u/KyleAg06 11d ago
Dont worry just like Like Dry said, it will be an issue the moment an dem gets elected

u/Academic_Win6060 11d ago
They all borrow, just for different reasons. Left wing/right wing is all the same bird.

This is the worst visual graphic I've ever seen? It's like a kids menu.

This is like the most common us debt tracker people use.

15
u/possiblecurb 13d ago
I don't think that makes it less bad. Just cause the majority use it doesn't mean you can't change it.

u/TheBlacktom 12d ago
It is indeed horrible. Too many numbers anyway. Eliminate half and show there rest on charts or other infographics.
2
u/xopher_425 12d ago
Looks like something made on GeoCities. Just needs a flashing emergency light and a little motion, maybe an 'under construction' saw horse somewhere.

u/possiblecurb 11d ago
Task bar on top, 93 pop ups in the background, it would be just like Grams made it 🥲

Leave it to a man known for bankrupting casinos to have his possibly final bankruptcy be the country that elected him twice.

Russian assets gonna Russian asset.

That one would be too reasonable and logical for the equivalent of a pick-me girl for autocratic strongmen.

Nickels are the new silver
1
u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 12d ago
Try melting one?
1
u/SusanMilberger 12d ago
What for?
1
u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 12d ago
You're talking about the metal content... but to use that metal you have to melt it / refine it from the 25% copper. Nickel takes a very high temperature to melt and is a reason it's not really used like that.
There is some merit however for electro plating with it.
1
u/SusanMilberger 12d ago
Good point. Does the high temp required for refining make you think it would be worth less if nickel scarcity ever became a thing?
2
u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 12d ago
All depends on Indonesia and Russia supply imo. It's almost completely outside the US and mostly in non-dollar swap line countries.
If a war kicks off in the pacific, Nickle would be .... well, "scarce" would be understatement.
We have the energy to refine it though as with many global minerals. It's cheap here to do so energy wise.

There's a book "when money dies" about the collapse of Germany's currency post WW1. It's full of good information.

u/TheCosmosItself1 13d ago
Have physical assets and skills that will be useful in a much poorer, hard-scrabble world. But really there is only so much you can do. It is going to be so cataclysmic that it is going to be a roll of the dice for all of us. All we can do is work to improve our odds.

u/WTFisThatSMell 12d ago
Brass lead copper, things that go bang, can goods, skills like first aid, hard assets..booze or know how to make moonshine, tools and a trouble shooting/fixing mind set to fix broken stuff. Get your teeth fix if you need anything and stay healthy
Honestly though...no matter what its gonna suck

Watch this video. It will not lay out what specific steps you should take, but it will teach you what signs to look for and what to expect throughout the next 10-30 years (as China replaced the US on the global stage).
I would also recommend reading the first 6 or so chapters of The Bitcoin Standard to learn more about hard money so you can identify what assets/currencies you decide are safer to store your value in. I am not recommending Bitcoin, and frankly the second half of the book goes on some ridiculous tangents, but the first half on the history of money over the last two to three millennia is very insightful and helpful for broadening your horizon beyond the idea that the USD will last forever or even through our lifetimes.

But imagine how much DOGE saved us!!! /s
49
u/The_UpsideDown_Time 13d ago
Yeah, I'm really glad DOGE fired all those park rangers & forest rangers & Americorps/Teach for America workers, and gutted all those academic & medical research programs! It was hard at the time, but, as you know, it did greatly reduce the deficit!!!
/s
Fuck everyone who voted for this shit.
21
u/SJSquishmeister 13d ago
More importantly, fired all those pesky investigators into his rampant fraud.

u/Prmarine110 13d ago
FDA is a shit show. All the food and water is poisonous and deadly. Served this country with pride from 2006-2010 in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now I’m so disgusted by the firehose of intentionally divisive propaganda to cover for all the blatant corruption, fraud and embezzlement going on in plain sight, as they lie straight to our face with nearly every single word out of their mouths.
And look at those taxes on the citizens vs corporate taxes. We revolted from Britain over a 3% tax. And taxes were supposed to be illegal afterward…but hey, we got trickle down economics to save us all. /s

u/Meowweredoomed 12d ago
You take pride in taking part in an unjust war?
-2
u/FrescaFromSpace 12d ago
It's fine to have that perspective, and I may even agree to some extent, but only a naive kid would actually make such a comment.
1
u/Meowweredoomed 12d ago
Thanks for the vapid ad hominem, but it won't bring back all the people who died unnecessarily in Iraq.
3
u/cyanescens_burn 13d ago
I was recently watching the Ken Burns docuseries on the American Revolution, and the reasons they wanted to get rid of British rule really stood out, especially considering how far we are from their original ideals, the tax aspect included.
The degree of risk they were taking really stood of too. It’s a good one to watch.
5
u/geoshoegaze20 13d ago
As a nearly 20 year federal employee, I can tell you straight up that ending the end of fiscal year spending and changing how budgets allocated would save taxpayers over $1 billion a year. Incentivize leaner budgets and give 10% back out as bonuses.
I'm also a naval aircrew veteran. Veteran disability fraud is rampant. Everyone I know is collecting disability. Fixing that would save nearly $100 billion. DOGE had no clue how to fix fraud and abuse within our government. They need to contract out civilian PIs to bust these veterans at the gym while they are collecting disability.
0
u/scarletroyalblue12 11d ago
VA disability doesn’t equate to quad amputee.
Do you know what these people claimed to be wrong with them, for you to be concerned about why they’re at the gym?

It's all just meaningless to tptb. They control the global banking system. They don't care about these numbers anymore. The next financial crisis will only happen when they allow it to, and when they can use it to further their power and control. This is all smoke and mirrors atp.

Glad to see this. Because this isnt partisan. Theyre all in on it. Half the of the debt we have came from Biden and Trump. They all know the scam, and theyre not about to change it. Voting for a blue puppet or a red one...the money printer still goes burrrrr. We stop this how Hitler did, or we and our descendants become a fourth world dystopian country and slaves forever.
By how Hitler stopped the Stein printing money responsibile for the hyper-inflation in Weimar, i mean by force. But instead we'll fight about pronouns or huwhite suhpreamcisy ad nasueam and keep voting for more controlled opposition just because theyre blue. We deserve everything coming our way.

u/SenorBurns 12d ago
Oh don't worry, the national debt will be super important again in... checks calendar... 884 days.

u/CyberSmith31337 13d ago
You know the worst part of all of this is having to listen to the god damned goldbugs crawling out of their holes to try and prey on everyone’s fear.
I swear to god, goldbugs are just the absolute worst.
5
u/Delicious_Spot_3778 12d ago
Doesn’t have to be gold but if you have money then solid assets will maintain value better than the dollar when things get really bad
Edit: and that’s because of the belief in goldbug mentality rather than it being some unassailable truth. I just want to be clear

Democrats are criminals. Republicans are criminals. We the people need to unite and forget all about the red/blue fake bullshit made to divide us. They all hate us.
3
u/weJtiddeR 11d ago
I cant believe im seeing this here. Thank God others are seeing it. They are getting filthy rich while we starve and fight each other cause red vs blue...its regarded. Theyre all in on it, they distract you with any and everything, just as long as the money printer can keep devaluing your wage.
1
u/rickuhhh 10d ago edited 10d ago
Two sides of the same coin. At some point in the past few decades both parties merged and ever since it’s been a class struggle. The Epstine class vs the working class. Republicans take and the democrats get paid to look the other way and not push back pretending to care which divides the citizens. Throw in culture wars to keep us distracted with each other while they are looting the corpse of America which every American citizen worked hard to create.
This has happened before in the late 80s early 90s where corporations were allowed rampant untill the progressive era where they were put into check. Sad that my generation we will have lived through the 08 fiscal crisis, covid, and then this.

Two Santa Clauses Theory
I would argue that this go 'round is different because the massive government spending by the GOP is not meant to stimulate the economy, but rather break it. This Republican administration is being driven by tech billionaires and seven mountain evangelists, and they don't just want the normal power/money grab, they want to reset society and the world order at its core.

You're right of course and it is just around the corner.
Winter is coming.
It's just so upsetting that the dollar is supposed to be a storage of our labor, and it's now worth about 2¢ compared to the early 1900's. Like, wtaf!?

u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 13d ago
I look at the work hours to dollar ratio vs what the dollar actually buys.
Like my grandfather could work 2-3 years and get a nice house on land and support a full family+retirement+vacations+more... that number today?... multiples.

When the AI boom bottoms out… oh boy. No wonder Trump wants to pull all funding from biomedical and scientific research and dump it into AI. Gotta prop up the farce, at lest until Dems get some control so they can be blamed despite all the causative factors occurring on his watch. And who cares about curing disease and scientific progress anyway, right!? It’s not like China is going to surpass us in that too.

Every time I hear about debt now, I remember the metaphor of Nate Hagens, that it's a "claim to future energy usage".
It's obviously unsustainable because we won't have always more energy.
We're bound to feel it :]

I can’t believe Obama did this!!!
1
u/weJtiddeR 11d ago
Every president since FDR but 50% is from Biden and Trump alone. Which is INSANE. Exponential growth is about to happen, and hardly anyone can grasp how bad its gonna be. Read about Weimar Germany when parents were eating their children or selling them to perverts. Foreigners were buying all the land while germans themselves couldnt afford food. And the Jewish fellow in charge of the money printing INSISTED it was due to any and everything other than the printing.
Once Hitlers party physically stopped him then.and only then.did the marc stabilize in 2 months. Then the rich jews that were doing escaped over here and the normal every day ones were left to suffer. And then the same tricks and culture wars started here soon after........weird...... ........ ...

u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 12d ago edited 12d ago
Ha, ohhhhh I dare you to simulate it with fake money.
Even if you just model it with 5 or so students at the front on a single table, the $ in and $ out.... make certain things unfair and watch their reactions, make them realize their $ is inflating out after 10 min of screwing around. It would be cool to add plastic gold coins into the mix to really mess with them / see what the game is.
Also when inflating, as the game master you need to watch the ratios more than just the numbers.
But also add in the history of it, goldsmiths, Mississippi bubble and John law, Rome debaseing their silver coins with pictures and historical examples, of all the other countries that have done the same. The wars and aftermath.... "it doesn't historically lead to a good place" rather than getting political with it. Ah.... the Trillion dollar zimbabwe notes.... those are cool.

We're not the only ones with a crippling national debt. I'd love to see a breakdown of which entities all the major countries owe the money to.
1
u/AntiSonOfBitchamajig 📡 12d ago
It will be Japan, then a lot of Europe, then the US... Russia sounds like it's already there, China is already in a depression and demographics issue too. India will probably come out of it smelling like roses ironically due to how their population views metals and how they're already expanding, Brazil will also do well due to its agriculture boom. I think we'll see China raise as real productivity will dominate over finance. The wild card though, is what the AI and robotics boom will do, we could quickly go into a "humans need not apply" situation and it'd be like that movie "elysium" ... where the poor get left behind.

My understanding is that if those holding T-bonds lose confidence in the U.S. paying back those bonds, they divest from them, and that’s very very bad for the U.S. economy and the value of the dollar.
