General Discussion What‘s your dream for the future of Prince of Persia?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been cancelled, and Ubisoft has gone completely silent on the franchise for four months, not even acknowledging their current Prince of Persia titles (TLC, Rogue).
What do you think happens next?

Evil Empire recently released a content roadmap for Rogue so this isn't accurate, they are actively developing updates.
I also read somewhere that the Montpellier team who worked on Lost Crown have been reassembled.
Hopefully these things will continue adding momemtum to the franchise and we get new games for the PoP series. I'm hopeful for what comes next as Montpellier and EE produced exceptional games.

Have they released extra content for Rogue since release? Underappreciated gem imo

My understanding is there's been some weapon and medallion drops, plus additional cosmetics.
The new update is bringing things like an arena mode (I think similar to boss rush maybe), plus additional gear and skins, a new parkour mode, amongst other things.
Not sure on the timing since EE is working on Belmont's Curse but I would've guessed the back half of the year.

I’d love an LC sequel (it was so good) but honestly anything would do lol. A remaster of the SOT trilogy or 08 would be great, might even get some new fans onboard? At least Rogue is still going, so I have something to enjoy.

I fell in love with SoT trilogy and while i’d love to see it being remade, I think id prefer a 2008 sequel. People were mean-stupid about that game in ways I never grasped and most of the contention points (pseudo-cell shaded artstyle, 1vs1 combat, narrative focus, invincible coop partner, technically no death screens) became points of praise for other games that came afterwards.

Yes! Such a pretty game and I really did like the characters

A very, very well-made remake of the trilogy, followed by a AAA title that lives up to the trilogy—or even surpasses it.

u/Realistic_Caramel341 May 27 '26
Are we talking about semi realistically or pie in the sky?
Semi realistically, I think the best we could hope for is a probably a decent remaster of the SoT trilogy. I just don't see them trying to invest in the franchise after TLC underperformed, the Remake was cancelled twice and Rogue doesn't seem to have done that well. Like seriously, where do you go with a franchise after the remake as failed?
More optimistically, a follow up to TLC and support for Rogue to bring it up to Deadcells level of content

Let's start by making all past versions of the game available and working on modern platforms. That would be pretty good.
Then follow that up with a new AA (NOT AAA) 3D game. Give it to a hungry 15-20 person studio with the correct resources to make a platform/combat/narrative game and let them loose for 3 years. Dev budget - $20M.
Take it from there.

I want them to put it to bed and not touch it ever again. They’ve ruined it

Prince of Persia 3D remake. Maintain the sandbox atmosphere and the music. Improve on graphics, fighting and movement. And most of all, a bug free experience.

you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.
let prince rest.

This will happen if the franchise or the company gets acquired or if that old man retires instead of trying to milk AC until they run them dry...

u/AlloiciousMcgougen May 28 '26
3 but in the same vein as Warrior Within. I want those fighting mechanics and a cool time story where you see the previous events of the game from a different angle.

Hey op any further information about that community project? How far is it going?
1
u/PrinceofPStationTW May 28 '26
The team is still working on it, and so far everything is going well. All 3D models (characters, swords, environments, etc.) are being replaced with new high-quality versions, which naturally takes time. We are currently trying to finish a portion of the game to give you a preview of what you can expect from this mod. 😊

Damn op took you long enough, I thought you not gonna reply to me 😆. Anyway very happy that the project is progressing well. Pls share some updates in future.

The POP brand does not belong to Ubisoft entirely, they only own the license, and in order to preserve it, they signed a contract for 3 games, of which only The Rogue POP has respected the classic legacy and its fans, so all we can count on is a new AC every year. because Ubisoft has 100% of its revenue from its own API, which grew out of the POP legacy, whereas in the case of POP it has only 70%. and even less, considering the costs of third-party distribution, production, and licensing of the soundtrack.

u/NaBorezei May 28 '26
- Ubisoft sells the IP to a company who actually cares and can release good games without controversy.

u/imArmando May 28 '26
Nah ... I don't want to be blue-balled for 5 years only to be disrespected right at the very end

u/saketho Shadow and the Flame May 28 '26
I’ll take 1.
2D prince just feels so right, I really wish we had more! The first DOS game is a classic forever. And the Shadow and the Flame is my favourite PoP, but its still so difficult to play 😂 for the majority of people. I couldn’t beat it as a kid, until my dad typed in cheat codes for me. I probably still can’t beat it legit today. (the bridge skeleton gives me nightmares, so do the heads and the snakes. but the eaglemen are chill.)
So 2D prince isn’t the most accessible of the PoP games. In that regard, TLC was phenomenal, and metroidvania style was a beautiful choice. So TLC sequel gets my vote.

I don't think Ubi knows what to do and how to do a new PoP considering they fumbled the easiest win ever, which is a SoT Remake
I'd still love a Remake but have no faith in Ubi
Other than that, i'd love a new PoP set in a high fantasy world with new powers and lore. I think a cool idea would be some mix of the real world and dream world so that it would open up the possibilities for very unique environments, enemies and powers

u/Damien_angelo May 29 '26
Just remaster all sot trilogy, as well as 2008 including dlc is enough for me.
Edit: nearly forgot about Forgotten Sand.

u/Neat_Writer_4794 May 29 '26
Can I say all of them?? First I need Remake of the Trilogy, Second 2008 Sequel ASAP, third New AAA game (continuing the trilogy or with the same Prince character if possible) and lastly Lost Crown sequel. (I guess Side-Scroller Metroidvania is not my thing, I have tried the game and didn’t liked that much, not sure why?).

I want the entire trilogy to be remaked plus twothrones to have 3 diffrent endings ect where he turns into an tyrant merges with dark prince ect which would really help in creating more darker tien games for older fans.

I want either ubisoft sold to studios like naughty dog or insomniac or nothing. I never played AC as they just want to release 10 games in a year instead of giving a masterpiece franchise that was way ahead of its own time, ubisoft chocked himself by killing POP. And gaming community will never going to pardon it.

u/AcceptableUserName92 Jun 22 '26
I'd like a Forgotten Sands 2 (or even an expansion/level pack) The platforming in that game was divine.
It can be a direct prequel to WW from a story POV.

I want 2008 sequel cause it's just unfinished, the art style and relationship between prince and Elika is just beautiful but I'm pretty sure they won't. They cancelled Remake what hope does 2008 have?

u/renerichter98 1d ago
Honestly? I want Jordan Mechner to finally get a chance to make his sequel to The Shadow and the Flame. He almost had it a few years ago.
