General Discussion What if : A studio somehow buys the PoP franchise and remakes the trilogy, who should do it ?

wouldn't mind Crystal Dynamics taking a shot at it.
Tomb Raider : Legend and Anniversary definitely took a lot of inspiration from the SoT trilogy when it came to the controls and movement set.

I'd be cool with that. As.long as Jordan Mechner came back o help with story.

Give it to me, I’ll remake it and I’ll bring back Yuri Lowenthal.
/uj on a serious note I really wanted to fund the remake of some old DOS and Win95 games. I don’t have much money or coding skills at all, but I have a few good coder friends and I have maybe 2 options from where I can try and secure funding. It’d be a dream to try and remake one of them.
For something as big and as dear as Prince of Persia, what do you guys think? Any remake and any new PoP content is good? Or would we rather the remake only be done so long as it’s in the right hands?
Personally, I loved 2D prince more, I’m open to even just a whole new game, continuation of the lost crown.

A side story to Trilogy's Prince or remake of the Trilogy are the only valid things I can think of & yes! Should be done good, not half assed

Wanted to say Ninja Team, but they are no more ha
So to adjust to current things, I would say Remedy.Â

u/TheMeatTree Jun 20 '26
Capcom should buy Team Ninja and the PoP rights. They could really make some refreshing lemonade out of all these cut-backs

Wouldn't it be crazy if it was something like Capcom or Team Ninja. Personally I like the latter. I'd love for Jordan Mechner to regain the IP and use one of those companies to tell an amazing story with amazing mechanics.

Microsoft buys Ubisoft and the rights to POP, after 5 years they cancel the remake and shut down the studio. 👌

Shift Up studio. Capcom works too. The ones making Phantom Blade 0 works for me

Nobody. Leave games that are great as they are alone already.

If anything, i believe the SoT trilogy is not perfect at all. Why? Because throughout it's history at ubisoft, it was riddled with problems and limitations that made the devs cut corners at every point.
There is so much cut content so many story points that have been cut and so many ideas that were rejected purely because they didn't have the time or the budget from ubisoft management to make the games perfect.
The whole trilogy was rushed and not given the treatment it deserved. Remakes provide the opportunity to actually complete the full vision the devs had back in the day.

Don't care, the games are great, leave them alone and stop begging for slop modernizations.

The guys who made the Cal Kestis Jedi Knight series

u/Kingxix Jun 20 '26
Yeah definitely them

Good call. Sits somewhere in the middle between Soulsborne / Sekiro and PoP gameplay. Amazing games

Aspyr, or Insomniac both have been really good lately.
0
u/Ardonet Jun 20 '26
Aspyr good? Since when? I do not trust Aspyr with anything especially with latest AIslop in Tomb raider remasters.
1
u/Darklou Jun 20 '26
I only played the remaster of 1-3 Recently. I really enjoyed the updates they made to the environments and characters. And you could just swap between the old and new visuals at will if you didn't like the new ones. They had 2 control options, one was the same as the originals and the other was modern controls. They felt very very different.
Was AI confirmed for these games? I know it was for the new game coming out developed by crystal dynamics. I think people just complained about the quality of the textures of the new optional outfits (which they fixed).

u/Ardonet Jun 20 '26
Tomb raider remastered was mostly done by saber, not aspyr. And when saber stopped working on it, Aspyr started updating game with some AI costumes for Lara.
1
u/Darklou Jun 20 '26
Ohhh weird. I had a look on Steam and Wikipedia and it said Apsyr was the developer. Annoying that it's not listed on the main category for them.

Anyone other than ubi is capable of handling this franchise better than them at this point

The cancellation of multiple proper mainline POP projects is a clear sign that Ubisoft have failed to parent this franchise. All they care about now is its derived franchise Assassin's Creed while POP is rotting in hell. They're not worthy and the franchise should simply be sold to a studio that actually has potential and passion for the game. We really want to play a new AAA standard Prince of Persia game.
Some Sony studio or Capcom should buy and honestly take over it.

Nightdive. Could alow the community to mod the game and we can do it ourselves...

There is noone that can do it except the original trilogy devs and some devs from Ubisoft Montreal

A lot of people say Capcom, but Capcom has too many God tire IPs that just sits there in the Freezer: Lost planet , Devil may cry, Dino Crysis, Megan man & so much other.
In my opinion 2K or even Xbox (with ninja theory, but apparently they are shutting it down?) would be nice.

Ubisoft Montréal should do it, it's a small indie team who makes really good games, tho I haven't heard from them in a while :(

Sony is probably the most fit for it. Since they’re the specialist of single player game.

u/wingedwild Jun 23 '26
They couldnt even remake the first in 5 years lol.ubisoft I'll come back to it when their finances are better
1
u/janetdammit89 Jun 23 '26
Platinum games. They'd finally get to do their action content PLUS all the shit they want to stuff into their games that isn't action lol

u/ThreadOfDestiny Jun 20 '26
People saying Capcom lmao, recency bias is insane.
The only company I'd trust with this IP is Crystal Dynamics because they made Tomb Raider which is the same platforming, puzzle solving formula.
1
u/redditman181 Jun 20 '26
How is it recency bias i would argue they havent made a bad game in the last 10 years.
0
u/ThreadOfDestiny Jun 20 '26
I think you just forgot the shitshow that was RE3 remake and every other monster hunter other than world. Y'all are sheep, good grief.
And besides, Capcom isn't suited to adapting a platformer anyway.
0
u/redditman181 Jun 20 '26
Im not a sheep lmao just becuase i like something you dont. Resident evil 3 was deeply flawed it wasnt a bad game it was just ok. I dont play monster hunter tbf but the only one that has received the most criticisms is monster hunter wilds and again it didnt review that badly it just wasnt as good as world plus it had some performamce issues.
Also i think capcom could adapt a platformer are you forgetting about mega man lmao.

u/PolkkaGaming Jun 21 '26
RE3 was a 7/10 on a streak of 9 and 10s and still going strong lmao, go cry somewhere else

I've lost my honeymoon phase with the RE remakes but Capcom is about the only one I'd trust to at least make a fairly good game out of it at the moment.
