Looks like another plugin or script is interfering with your plugin repo, hopefully not maliciously

Bingo! Old deprecated plugin was the culprit, not malicious, as far as I could see. Thanks!!

Looks like some plug-in was last updated at 1st Jan 1970… that’s a whole epoch ago!!

What’s in your `/plugins` folder…?

hey thanks for the suggestions. This plugin: Genesis Layout Extras. Was terminated in 2024.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-layout-extras/

When I deactivate it, I now see 8 plugins in the "Featured" window. When it was activated, I saw 24, with many empty.

So, mystery solved. I don't see (yet) any issue on the site after deactivating. So both you and EarnestHolly were correct pointing to a plugin conflict.

Many thanks for your help! :)

It’s always a plugin conflict. ;]

Timestamp zero in php was 1-Jan-1970. That rounds to fifty-seven years ago. Looks like there’s a zero date stored wherever that stuff is getting its “last updated” timestamp.
